These are probably the same people that leave a bad review of the restaurant on-line because their food wasn't hot.

There was a thread about this a year or two back. If someone wants a picture, sure, go ahead - but stage the table while you wait, have your phone ready, plate goes down, adjust for five seconds, snap, eat.

Anything more than that is just self adoration. $0.02.

Seems like people have more money to spend, than they have nutritional needs.

Used to be, when I was like that, I'd invite interesting people to join me for these dining experiences. Seems to me, people don't crave the actual company of one another anymore. They want to show off what they "ate" but without the inconvenience of those people actually being with you. My big spending days are behind me, and I should be jealous of the people spending all this money, to take images of food. Instead, I feel sorry for them.

Bad reviews? Absolutely not. Absolutely not. They're in love with this experience and would do nothing to soil this "wonderful" experience. Remember, a negative review says "I had a bad time". These people would rather die than have a bad dining experience. They'll claim to love everything about their evening, even if they took only a half of one bite.

These kinds of people are very jealous about maintaining the image of perfection in their life experiences. They wouldn't complain even if the dessert smelled of manure.

The problem for me is using flash. It is very disruptive anywhere, let alone in an expensive resto. I think the article mentioned this specifically.

I also don't like crappy loud music and smelly clients. Then there is overexplaining the dish in the menu or by the waiter. I dislike waiters introducing themselves by name.

    I could go on...

I like to cook my own food and then eat it.

I've had restaurant meals where a photograph might be helpful for medical personnel later in the evening.

We connect thru food. If we're apart, we can still connect via pix of food. Takes 2 sec., food doesn't get significantly cooler. Heck, we send food teasers: Nyaah! I'm here and you're eating crap, etc.

+100% You nailed it right there. I don't even have a cell phone, but my wife and all of her social media "friends" and relatives do. I finally just flat out told her not to show me anymore of that stuff. Nevertheless, she has to show me at least one a day ... of some selfie, or food, or pet or something else that does not matter to me at all. Everyone is wasting their time on this stuff.

Just curious, did you actually eat that, or is the pic posted for humor?

If I've ordered, or made, a particularly nice looking dish, I'll occasionally snap it and send to my son and sister who are both professional cooks and appreciate it, all in fun. No Fb posts etc.; but I think with the proliferation of TV cooking shows and celebrity chefs over the last couple decades, there is a much greater interest and appreciation at large out there and more people dig those pics just like we like seeing guit pics endlessly. As far as that chef mentioned, hey he made his noodle bed and now has to lie in it.

You really haven't lived until you get one of those bouncing heads on your phone screen saying you have an "urgent personal message." I didn't know how to get rid of those things for a day or two and they were jumping around like weird jack in the boxes on my phone. Most of the urgent messages were pictures of someone's cat.

Hey, one big difference in snapping a photo of a guitar compared to that zillion dollar restaurant dish is ...

... the guitar doesn't get cold while getting the perfect shot. Just sayin'

I can't relate, but I know that my entire wife's family have constructed animated characters that look like themselves and can place them into different settings. I would ask my wife what they are called, but I don't dare mention a hint of interest.:D

    I've never seen his work.

Is he a landscape photographer like Adams or more of a "street" photographer like Larry Fink?

I like pictures of food, especially steaks. It makes me want to eat a steak. Veggies not so much.

    Mmm...steak.
