I supposedly moved to a quiet sleepy surf town with a chill atmosphere & all things associated to that. The honest assessment is I've never been aggressively confronted so much in my life while minding my own business... standing in lines, sitting in a cafe, riding my bike. You name it.

Previous to here I lived 25yrs in Oakland. Nary a peep.

People I've mentioned it to have knee jerked a "you hang around with the wrong people". wth?

People in general are just becoming more intolerable.

its the new norm. and ya, as mentioned, I have a pretty good idea why we've come to this, and why to expect more of the same.

That’s either something someone seriously mentally ill would say (Inferring that the “people in my pants” used to be so much more polite) or ...

    I guess that’s all I got ...

No, neither were you, but I can say this with certainty: whether West of Philly, Central Illinois or the tip of Idaho, there's no civilized justification for answering a simple "hello" with "don't you say hello to me." Four kids, husband ran off with her best friend, lost her job or whatever.

That kind of nastiness only becomes compounded by people who try to make excuses for such behavior.

The new thing around here is to throw up a bunch of McMansions around a farm and complain to the county about the "smells", and the slow tractors/farm equipment blocking traffic. An older man I know had them do that to his cattle ranch. He raises longhorn steers for the rodeo, and his wife keeps some sheep for training her border collies, and they have chickens for eggs. Anyway, he had a couple of coyotes on his farm messing with the sheep, so he stepped out on the back porch with his rifle and blew them away. Freaked some of the new neighbors out and they called the County Sheriff to report him. Sheriff told them he was within the law to defend his farm from predators, and there was nothing he could to about it. Weirded those city folks out pretty good. Bet they stay out of his pastures:)

Love to hear reports from the prairie, and I mean that with the utmost sincerity. (I had to say it that way, since you are a big liar).

I've had a problem with that for sometime. It's so difficult to catch the bum, because he's always doing it behind my back.

It is getting worse. But it's been getting worse for a while. It was maybe 17 or 18 years ago, I was walking my pitbull, and two big dogs came running at us barking and growling. Luckily there was a chain-link fence between us. Those dogs were barking, and biting at the metal fence trying to get through it to get to me and my dog. A lady in her fifties came behind them at a jog, calling to them. I said, "You know, those dogs are vicious ... you ought to keep them on a leash!" Her response: "F you!"

Man, she was a middle class lady in Target casual wear who lived in a middle class neighborhood, in sensible shoes. "F you???" Wut? I started to lose my faith in humanity big time. It's only gotten worse.

I think this year is worse, though jerks have of course been around forever.

I maintain a seaside hotel property with assigned parking for the 30 units.
There are three staff spaces and that's it.
Waterfront property is not plentiful and there just isn't extra parking
We deal with guests parking poorly on in the wrong space, that's normal.

This year we keep having guests refuse to park in their assigned space if they think there are better spaces.
Some have actually parked in other guests spaces and refused to move.
Today I had to work with a guest who was refusing to move over enough for his neighbor to park.

We seldom have anyone refuse to park in their space, never mind numerous guests week after week.
Seems to be a pretty clearly increasing pattern and we get people from all over the world.

Humanity can no longer tolerate humanity?

I wouldn't take it personally. There are a lot of new rude people around my neighbourhood and some regulars too. A few times they have acted rudely and I just laugh at them and shake my head. They don't seem to know how to react to that. Sometimes when I have done it I'm hoping they take offence and escalate the situation so I can vent some steam but I mostly just go about my business and don't give it a second thought. Who knows what their hang ups are and I have learnt to not care.

SoOOooo... the family ventured south into US this weekend, into Omak, Washington. We had a great time and thought the folks there were friendly as anything. I'm not going to generalise, but I didn't see any rude stuff going on.

    Small town meets big town?
That does not even register on the rudeness meter for people using public transit in a large city.
I just nod at people as I walk my dog, that seems to work

I really think the cause is the so called "Social Media" where everyone can be a commentator and reporter of insignificant events that makes them believe that the dribble the produce on "Social Meja" somehow renders them as more important and deserving than other people. This internet crap is becoming more toxic by the day and will ruin this planet.

So ..... I have decided that whatever I say, report or make up is now the standard by which you all must henceforth act!!

    DC :D

Proof positive when certain social media platfoms change their community guidelines to say that inciting violence is ok against certain groups and they continually censor those groups as well.
