Drove around Louisville today... hit a few pawn shops and saw mostly a bunch of junk.

But then I found relatively new looking bid red Dunlop Fuzz Face. I've been wanting one of these for a very long time, but they're $130 new... and it's a niche item (I won't use it all at the time)... and they're usually around $100 used.

I found this one with an asking price of $49. I asked to plug it in, and played a Squier Strat through a Fender Hot Rod DeVille 410.

Sounded out of this world... and did that thing that some fuzzes do, where it provided a better clean tone by rolling down the volume, than the amp could do on its own. Absolutely beautifully obnoxious pedal.

So I offered them $35, out the door... tax and all.

They first said no, and countered at $40. I said thank you and handed it back to them, and began to walk away. About 3 steps before I got to the door, the guy said, "Ok. $35 out the door."

    Deal.

As a recipient of many excellent pawn shop scores, I must applaud you GoodTex! Great deal and it sounds like a great fuzz. Double score!

Best deals are reserved for those who are willing to get up & leave the table.
Worst deals go to the folks who CAN'T leave the store w/o it.

    Choices, folks; we make choices.

    Nice score, @TheGoodTexan

My kind of bargain hunter. Congrats. The poker face, pushing away from the table usually does the trick.;)

And I wasn’t dorking around with them. I was honestly walking out. I don’t “need” the pedal at all. I would not have gone back later and bought it. It would have been out of my mind.

So yeah... I was walking away from the table.

Great deal, I have the same pedal but the rubber is lifting on the top of mine. It sounded awesome when it was working. It crapped out a few years ago after I mistakenly plugged it in the wrong way around. May have just been a coincidence that it stopped working at the same time.

I perked up when I read your opening line. I was in Louisville once, in 1979(?). I visited a pawnshop and I used all the money I had saved that week to buy this beautiful Vox 12-string for $85. I carried it around (with no case) for the next several weeks. Got a lot of strange looks at hotel reception desks.

Of course this has nothing to do with your post, except that the mention of pawnshops in Louisville brought back a very happy memory - thanks for that.
