I have a Studio Pro 112 (red stripe, 65W). I like it just fine and gig with it. I stick to cleans and use pedals for dirt. I'm using a Tech 21 Blonde pedal into it now (even for my cleans). Sounds even more better.

Went and tried out a Studio Pro 40 from CL last week and was not that impressed.

Not the most comfortable audition circumstances but still - didn't do it for me. It was $85.

Am supposed to be trying out a Bandit 75 next week for, appropriately enough - $75.

I'll get one of these gig-monsters yet !

Mike, what was it about the SP40 that was not impressive to you? I'm wondering if you might find the Blackbox/silver stripe TransTube 112s more to your liking.

My older SP110 teal stripe that I gave to my son I liked well enough, but the TT SP 112 I have now is so much better. More ooomph, bottom end thump...and the 12" speaker is less boxy.

Now that Bandit 75 is indeed a gig-monster! I really love mine. It loves to be turned up, though I can't do that too much here at the house. But it can hold its own with a drummer and another guitarist and me on my Tele.

At home alone, I turn my Bandit 75 down and it still has a full, rich sound. For home use I play through either it or my SP 112 TT mentioned above.

Picked up a USA red stripe Studio Pro 112 last weekend for $49 at a pawn shop. So far, I'm really digging everything about it. This using my Telecaster of course. It looks like this one...

That's exactly the version I used at a jam one time. It sounded phenominal with my Jimmie Vaughan Strat.

That is a great deal. Pawn shops around here are too savvy (or maybe just greedy?) when it comes to Peavey amps. Down here only Rages and Blazers are priced in that range.

What's the story on yours? Did it sit for a long time w/o selling and therefore get marked way down? Do you have a great story to tell about bartering with them until you got that price?

Well, I was out of town and cruising pawn shops with the wife. I bought an Ibanez SoundTank DL-5 Delay at one shop. On the counter, they had discount coupons for a new store they opened on the other side of town. The coupon was for $20 off any purchase over $50. So, we went to the new store and I spotted the Studio Pro. It was marked $69.99. :D

To test it, I grabbed a $99 Korean Peavey Strat clone off the wall. The Peavey Strat was really nice, too! But, I was running low on funds at that point. Spent it all on pedals.

That day's scores were:

Peavey TransTube Studio Pro 112 $50
Boss SD-1 $20
Ibanez DL-5 Delay - $20
DigiTech AutoWah - $20
Way Huge Swolen Pickle Fuzz $37
Crybaby Wah $30

I think I paid too much for the Cry Baby.

Man, I'd love go shopping with you!

In this economy, it's a buyer's market.

Messing with the Studio Pro last night, I tested some reverb tanks I had laying around the shop. I found one tank that made the reverb sound more Fender-y and louder. Can't turn the control past 9 o'clock without totally washing out the dry signal but it's nicer now.

I wasn't real happy with the Blue Marvel speaker, either. Found an Eminence that had more lows and was more efficient. Funny thing about the Blue Marvel was that it was missing the gasket on the front of the speaker! The darned thing was not sealed to the baffle board. Anyway, it sounds really, really nice with a different Eminence! Sorry, I don't know the model number. It's something I had laying around for a couple of years.

The Studio Pro is a very nice amp. I played the Tele for what I thought was a few minutes... and an hour had slipped by.

That's a great deal. I have a Studio Pro 112 and the clean channel is great. It makes a good backup when I don't want to take out my Classic 30.

That's the setup I use for gigs too. The Blonde works very well with older Peaveys, BTW.

Try the Seymour Duncan Twin Tube Classic tube preamp pedal with those Peaveys!

I use one on the clean channel of my teal stipped Peavey Stereo Chorus 212. It now sounds like a vintage Marshall combo even at low volume.

I wasn't as impressed when I used the pedal with my PV Delta Blues, probably because the Delta Blues doesn't really need help, but that Seymour with my SS Peavey sounds incredible. It gives me 3 more channels!

I'm also a fan of those PV Studio Pro's. Great sound while nice and portable. The true baby brother of the Bandit.

I found an original Studio Pro (20 watt RMS) and bought it for $50... liked the light weight and balanced Line Out. I had been dragging my Bandit 65 to gigs and jams, and had hopes for the little studio pro. It didn't compare at all to the B65. Sounded thin. Then I remembered I had bought a dead Crate something or other with an 8 ohm Celestion. That puppy turned out to be a very nice G12K-85s. I know I didn't need the 85 watts, but what the heck... I stuffed that big Celestion in the Studio pro... and what a difference!!! Much more clean volume, bottom, and flat tone. Weighs a lot less than the B65, and the sound is comparable. Gigging it this weekend, so we shall see... so far, an $85 lightweight sound beast...
