Can someone help a guy out here? I purchased a new Peavey foot switch, since this 130 didn’t come with one. No workee, the amp stays on the overdrive channel. The right foot switch button won’t turn off reverb, either. I tried sticking one end of a patch cable in the foot switch jack with the same result. The gentleman I bought the amp from replaced the caps, and I cleaned the pots so the amp sounds great, but I’d like to be able to access the clean channel. Any ideas what the issue could be?
It sounds to me Like those jacks in the rear of the amp are dirty, thus preventing your new foot switch from working properly. This is a common issue and very easy to resolve. Since you stated you had cleaned all the pots and didn't mention anything about cleaning any of the jacks, I can only assume that may be your problem. Spray some DEOXIT or other good contact cleaner onto the tip of a 1/4" plug and insert it into each jack at least 5 or six times, and repeat the process for each jack. If that's the issue, it should take care of the problem. Good luck!

Thanks, but still no switching. I tried a 1/4 inch patch into the foot switch jack, no go; I tried patch cable into power amp in and out, and there are lights on the foot switch, but no switching between channels and reverb stays on. I think we’re off to the amp doctor…

Perhaps you have the incorrect foot switch or that one needs to be re-wired. I own three of these amps and each with its own factory-stock foot switch. And not a one of these foot switches has lights on them. They're just plain old Peavey 2-button foot switches. I'd definitely try a different Peavey foot switch on that amp.

Well I brought the amp and foot switch to my local guitar shop. The amp tech is booked out 6 weeks, so one of the guitar techs tried one of his new foot switches on the amp, with the same result: stuck on drive channel, and stuck on reverb. I decided to bring the amp home and do some more research. I'm wondering if there might be an issue on the circuit board, since the leds on the foot switch turn on and off.

I've searched quite a few forums for channel switching issues with Peavey amps, and am not coming up with anything substantial.

At this point, if you hadn't already done so...I'd head on over to the Peavey Forum site and pick their brains. There are quite a few very knowledgeable Peavey Techs and users on that site who may be able to lead you down the right path to getting your amp issue(s) resolved. Good luck

Just noticed this thread while scrolling down the list of sub-forums and seeing it on top. I've had a Special 130 for several years but seldom use it, like most of my guitar gear since having kids. Like most older Peavey gear, I assume it'll work just fine whenever I get back around to it.

I saw this video not long ago that may be of interest to some here. Like most of Zac's videos, it's more talk than music, but he sure has a pristine example here.
