Hello,

I am interested in buying my first tube amp mostly for home use and to jam with friends, I play Country, Blues, Classic Rock and trying my hand at learning some Jazz, I am 58 years old and have only been playing for a couple of years. I have a Roland JC40 SS amp and love it but would like to buy one good small tube amp, small enough for home use but also big enough to play in a mix with other members, I have looked at several other name brand amps but trying to decide between a Peavey Delta Blues 210 or 115.

Any thoughts on the difference in sound between these two?

Are these built as good as the older Bandits?

Are they as good or better than the Classic 30?

Anything I should be looking for when looking at used amps?

Is there a fix for the looper issue I saw in this video?

Thank you

Michael

I personally have had a Delta Blues 210 and a Classic 30 and the Classic 30 was a better fit for me. I like the tone of a 12" speaker and the cab was easier to move around. The trem on the Delta Blues is more of a square shape trem, and I prefer the triangle shape of a Fender amp, so the added trem on the DB wasn't ever used.

---> Smoother tone with the 15", I'd go for this version instead of the 2x10".

Are these built as good as the older Bandits?

---> I'd say no : the 80's Peavey were built like tanks - being tube or solid state.

Are they as good or better than the Classic 30?

---> Much better sounding in 15", plus they have a tremolo. They share with the Classic 30 the same tendency to vibrate the 4xEL84 outrageously.

Anything I should be looking for when looking at used amps?

---> I'd preferably choose a nice cosmetic condition amp. And of course, if you can test it, it's better ! ;)

Is there a fix for the looper issue I saw in this video?

---> o_O

---> But it's me, OK ?

I fairly recently acquired the 15" version of the DB. It's an older one with the no-name 15" speaker (Eminence I think). It sounds great on stage to me. Has a voicing that cuts through and I find it easy to dial in a sound that I can hear without being too loud. Very decent work-horse type amp in my opinion.

I once owned a DB 115. The reverb was a little weak, and the tremolo caused a volume drop.
Other than those two issues the amp sounded pretty good with the right tubes.

I have both an old C30 & a Delta Blues 115. I got the DB because I wanted the tremolo and was curious about the 15” speaker. The DB can be a bit “woofy” to me, the tremolo is ok, but the thing is—it seems to gain 4 or 5 lbs. every year. No kidding. With failing knees and advancing age it has become for me a beast; definitely not a "grab-and-go." Nothing wrong with it but I can cover tremolo in more portable ways. But weight may not concern most folks. I’m continually surprised at how the things that matter to me evolve over time.
