Hey guys, I have a C30 that I bought from the pawn shop. I have had the tubes replaced with a JJ set for power and Ruby set for pre amp.

The speaker in my amp is a 12 inch no brand speaker. I have really looked into purchasing a Ceramic webber blue dog. But I do not know what ohms, cone style, how much dope or watt power I should get it.

~Sorry for my English.

Those are fabulous speakers.
50 Watts.
Light Dope
8 or 16 Ohms

Another popular speaker for that amp is the Eminence GB12.

But, as with all speaker questions, you are bound to get MANY answers. There is no "wrong" speaker. It all depends on how YOU hear the Amp/Speaker.

good luck

Classic 30s take a speaker with an 8ohm load, i think they come stock with blue marvels? as far as wattage, i think any professional load speaker will be rated high enough to handle the classic 30. Not sure about the combo, but on my C30 head the external speaker jack is 16 ohms. I run it through a vox cab with celestion g12 centuries... My friend had a classic 30 combo and i hated the tone i got out of compared to g12s. I think i just like how bright neodymium speakers are.

Stock speaker is 16 ohm, if you run an extension speaker cab of 16 ohm the speaker jack parallels at 8 ohm. There's a diagram in the owners manual, see link below.

(link removed)

Hope it helps.

Yeah, that is what I thought.
To run an 8 Ohm speaker in the cab, we just put a "dummy plug" in the speaker jack.;)
best

Im still kinda lost about the impedance part of the speaker. Its a combo amp. So I am not sure how i would dummy plug it. On the back of the amp on the chrome part near remote switch input it says 30 watts 22V RMS 16 ohms minimum load.

The dummy plug, (just a 1/4" plug with no wiring attached) will plug into the "extension speaker" jack on the back of the amp. It's the jack next to the remote jack. The dummy plug is used if there is an 8 OHM speaker installed inside the amp. The dummy plug is changing the tap of the OT to fool it into an 8 ohm scenario.

The normal speaker is 16 ohm in a Classic 30, Peavey extension cabs are usually 16 ohm cabs. That's how Peavey designed it.

If the speaker you install is 8 ohms, then I'd recommend the dummy plug so the amp isn't under strain for extended use.

It's probably the best idea to use a 16 ohm speaker in a Classic 30 tho, that way it stay in factory config and less chance of letting the magic smoke out. :)

I thought I read where you just use the ext tap for the 8ohm.

Well anyway, I have been doing that with various 8ohm speakers for
years.

The C30 takes any speaker well..back to the op question.

The amp comes with a 16 ohm speaker

Sorry about that.
I thought the PV C30 came with a 16 Ohm in the cab.

You were right, it's 16 ohms.

I think the entire Classic Series run a 16 ohm load. The Classic 20, 30 and 50 that I've owned all did, anyway. See page 25 of the owners manual at peavey.com

I also have the extension 112 cab for my Classic 30, so I installed a Celestion V30 in the combo, and a G12H30 in the ext cab. Love the sound!
I have them bolted together top and bottom to make a mini-stack.

weber

I asked Ted Weber the same question and he recommended 16ohm, 30 watt Blue Dog Ceramic w/ Pre-Rola. Also said the Alnico version would be cool: more "compressed" sound but also more expensive. Ceramic was his first choice for that amp. Let us know what you decide on and how you like it. I still need to do the speaker on mine.
