There is a lot of love for all models of Peavey Classics here. It's not the same, but a lot of people have the Classic 30 and Delta Blues and have a lot of good things to say about them. The overdrive is loved by some and unloved by others. I liked the drive on the 50. I had the 50 head with the 4x10 cabinet and I loved it. They are solid amps.

    20 is harder to find.

    I'd jump if price was right...had a Classic 50 410 and a classic 30

    You lucked out.

I saw a Classic 20 burst into flames right in front of me. Nasty smell. We had to clear out the practice space.

Besides that ? Grating overdrive sound.

I don't agree with Mike. I had one back in the day and I wish I had never sold it. It had a great overdrive sound with a Strat at low home level volume. I used it with my band even, and made some good sounding recordings with it. It was a great way to keep my drummer and bass player's volume in check, 'cause I could say "You guys have to come down, 'cause I'm already on eleven!"
They're very hard to find used, and usually too costly. I don't know if they're so rare because most didn't survive, or if the guys that have them aren't letting them go. I got rid of mine when the CL 30 came out, 'cause it sounded even better, had more volume on tap, and had reverb.

Had one years ago then sold it to get the 30. I did that because i liked it so much i wanted one loud enough gig with. Well, i quickly realized the 30 doesn't sound near as good. They're good, at least the early ones which is what i got. So i just kept using it. But that 20 hhas haunted me since. Differences are that the 20 is cathode biased and also the preamp is probably different since it's a single channel and they likely made it more organic rather then cluttering it up to make it mainly for OD like the 30 because it has to serve both clean and dirty tones. In any case, great little amp.

I owned one back in the day and I agree with Doug - it's an excellent home amplifier with in my opinion one of the best master volumes I have experienced. The overdrive with a P90 bridge pickup was pure rock 'n' roll.

I actually think the 30 has much better cleans, however.

I've always like the package. They're good looking. Portable. And can usually be found at a reasonable price.

So there is a modern Classic 20 mini-head that has many features the old combo did not have, such as reverb. The combo was highly regarded years ago. Always wanted to test drive one but never had the opportunity.

I agree, from the countless demos I have watched. It's kind of a shame and a bit ironic as well, because the newer head appears to have absolutely beautiful cleans compared to the original combo, but they ruined the overdrive!
