I bought a Backstage ii about 7-8 years ago. I got it because you can plug an iPod through it for backing tracks. I never really took to it. Its been sitting next to the bed collecting dust for awhile. The other night my wife and daughter were watching chick flicks in the den. So I grabbed my Tele and took it to the bedroom to noodle around. I decided to plug in the little Peavey. Sitting on the floor I leaned it up against the wall angled up at me. I don't know if it was the angle behind it or just because it was pointed at my face but it sounded pretty good. I guess I finally heard the "transtube" technology? Whatever that's supposed to be? It almost sounded like it had a little tremolo effect to it also. Not a bad sounding little practice amp. Who knew? Kinda glad I hung onto it now. Anyway that's just my 2cents... Happy Easter!!

I've taken a small, inexpensive practice amp and done an easy, easily reversible, non-invasive, mod that allows me to use the combo as a head with various different cabs.

It can make a mediocre sounding little amp sound a lot better, and "bigger". Depending on how bad/small the original speaker was and how good the cab is the difference can be quite amazing. The speaker swappers are on to something. Much of any amp's tone is in it's speakers.
