I was halfheartedly attempting to do a pre tidy in the tip which is my garage, when I came across something I'd bought maybe 4 years ago and forgotten!

It's a Paulownia body from GFS and man it's a bit shoddily manufactured! I've had to plug the neck mounting holes for a start, but hey I have time currently to waste. (lots of us do!)

I might marry it up with a spare Baja neck and see what transpires. Fit and finish on the body is quite...er...below par,the pics actually flatter it,but it was only 20 quid for the lesson! :D

It's got a great look in the photos! Sorry to hear that the quality doesn't match. But perhaps you may be able to bring it to glory!

Here's mine from GFS. It is poplar , a bit heavier than my #1 (ash). The neck pocket was a disaster so I layed up veneer on the sides and rerouted it. You can see the offset at the neck joint. Came out pretty nice, I think. I had to modify the bridge pup route to accommodate the HB size P90, as well. 20200314_100544.jpg

@Skub, dooooo iiiiiiiit! And post pics!

@Old Deaf Roadie, I gravitate toward plain-looking instruments but have to say that pale body finish, gold hardware and dark pearloid on the pickup and pickguard...that is cool! I think the pale finish tones down the gold and pearloid a bit, in a good way.

How do you like the GFS bridge pickup? Is that a Mean 90 or Dream 90?

Keep us posted, I've been thinking about going after a featherweight Tele. Nice floor, too!

Here's my GFS Paulownia body partscaster. Edenhaus neck, Seymour Duncan 59 neck and Antiquity tele bridge pickup and Wilkinson bridge.

This guitar sounds excellent and plays well. Note: once you install screws, don't plan on removing them because Paulownia is like Balsa wood.

Thank you. This is Miss Anna May. I name my keeper guitars after the ladies in my life, this one for my daughter as she is also both beautiful & unique. It is my most recent project. It's progressing in the playability department. Setup is a drawn out process for me because I go by feel & finesse rather than jigs & tools, and I mess with it until the action is where I like it. It doesn't play quite as nice as my #1 in my avatar (Miss Laura my wife), yet, and in it's current state I would still gig with it. It certainly has a unique sound in the ctr position. I bought the body because I knew I would have to eventually have one after seeing it on the GFS website, and decided the price was far below the effort required to build my own from a blank. I believe the double black binding on cream is a tasteful combination, a good place to start. I assembled this guitar 100% based on appearance.

Thank you for your kind words! I don't really remember which 90. They had sets of this pup in their closeout section, but were sold out. So, I looked on their pickup section and found the bridge pup as a solo unit, so I am thinking they ran out of the neck pups, which were not listed. It has a rather unique ctr position sound.

Wow! That is a real looker! I love everything about, and that pup is amazing! Fantastic looking guitar.

Incidentally, I scored a cheap Paulownia body off a local dealer just before Xmas. Only paid 30 bucks local for it - roughly 15 or so English pounds. It’s got a couple of small dings in it, hence the low price he (dealer) said, but I’m planning on a solid finish anyway. Thinking of something like this, but with an ebony fb.

I'd been keeping my eye on that body but they've been out for some time. It's a looker.

I just ended up with the unfinished/undrilled paulownia body for $35 to go with one of the ash bodied projects from them. Undrilled takes the screw ups away from GFS & puts it on me.

    Looking forward to your build.

Neck and Wilkinson bridge installed today, lined up fine with the string holes and the neck plate hides the ugliness of the plugged body. There's a bit of slack in the neck pocket, but the strings run true and equal on the neck.
Fat Lion Pickup fitted into the cavity without further adjustment, which was a nice surprise!

    A question for the masses!

I made a walnut burl guard a while ago and also have a black plastic guard.

    Which do you all prefer?

Wife says black, because of the binding, but I kinda like the warm wood tones of the walnut.

I think this one may be an Esquire, mostly because I thought I had a neck p/up,but it appears I don't!

Ha! Just not fashioned yet. I cut an angled slot and move the volume knob slightly away from the switch.
