Well ... I hadn’t planned on starting quite so soon ... I wanted a well thought out plan of attack ... and I haven’t been able to make a decision on what I will challenge myself to build. I want to do something with a Tele ... but not sure exactly what.

Looking through my wood stacks I have a variety of different blanks ... veneer ... decisions! Anyway ... I will need a neck no matter what I do and also my weakest part of building skills so I thought I might just start with that and see what inspires me ... and grabbed a neck blank.

It is Canadian hard rock maple ... got out a template, drew my centre line ... measured it’s thickness (30mm) so it will need to be thicknessed down to 20mm before proceeding further if I’m going to add a fretboard.

    Hold on ... @#$! ... I started! Okay ... June 27th is my d day ... let’s go!

I have been looking at this as a starting point ...

We will see how close the end product matches up.

I am really enjoying all the builds going on now ... plenty to read about while at home!

I really like your goal there. And starting with the piece that is the most challenging for you isn't a horrible idea. You can take your time and work methodically. And your future neck pocket can be absolutely matched to the neck you'll have already completed. That works...

I will enjoy this one very much. My next build is going to be an oldschool blackguard Thinline with the cap on back.

Everybody is busy ... my thread on page 3 ... time to thickness the neck blank

I had to dig out the thicknesser and thank god it fired up after sitting for quite some time

It is a nice machine although I haven’t used it in a while ... took a few minutes to remember about the auto stop catch ... you gotta pull the button out before it will start.

Made a mess as I don’t have a proper extractor yet ... and left it at 21mm to give me some carving room.

On to digging out the router table for the truss rod channel ...

Good to see you joining in too, Paul :)!

It looks like both of our builds are on similar paths!
