Paul Weller is the third biggest selling British artist in England... the first two being Paul McCartney and Elton John. I'd say he's entitled to an opinion.Never heard of Paul Weller or The Jam before. I've heard of The Cure.

That's what I read a few years ago... it was referring to sales in England only. It definitely surprised me, though. Not according to this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_biggest_selling_British_acts_of_all_time
Edit, unless it is strictly limited to sales in England then I don't know.
Shakin' Stevens sold more singles in the UK than The Jam.That's what I read a few years ago... it was referring to sales in England only. It definitely surprised me, though.
Paul Weller, not the Jam. Paul Weller has been a solo artist for many years now. His music sounds nothing like the Jam.Shakin' Stevens sold more singles in the UK than The Jam.
You still haven't posted a link to him being the third biggest selling British artist in England.Paul Weller, not the Jam. Paul Weller has been a solo artist for many years now. His music sounds nothing like the Jam.
From Wikipedia: "Weller's album chart performance has been especially strong, with five number one and seven number two albums. He has also scored five top ten and nineteen top twenty singles. He has also achieved significant chart activity in Japan."
Got a link to what you read? He’s not even in the top tenThat's what I read a few years ago... it was referring to sales in England only. It definitely surprised me, though.
No, and I was just trying to find it myself to verify it. It was at least a few years ago... but I know I didn't imagine it. I wouldn't make it up... I'm not even a fan of his solo music.Got a link to what you read? He’s not even in the top ten
Well... I guess if someone isn't popular in the good ol' US of A, they may as well be living under a rock. Yee ha.He could be #1 in England, but he’s still practically nobody in the states.

I don't think it's ever been true. He's big in UK, that's fair enough to say, but in terms of sales (either albums or singles) he's never been anywhere close to McCartney or Elton, forget Sir Cliff, Freddie and Co., one Thin White Duke, the Spice Girls. No, and I was just trying to find it myself to verify it. How is the Ramones about “moving units”? They were never that big in the states.I would hope all musicians understand that there's more to music and music making than "instrumental prowess."
