"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pat DiNizio, lead singer and songwriter of the influential New Jersey rock band, The Smithereens"

I've loved this band's sound since I first heard them back in the 80s.

Post your fave tunes from this great band, in honor of Pat.
    I'll start with the obvious

They had what to me was a very cool, edgy, and exciting sound.

Just like a day or two ago I was reading a note Pat'd sent out, thanking everyone for support through his illnesses
I found it, it was just last Sat :(

    GREETINGS FROM SCOTCH PLAINS NJ!
Hey everybody - it's your old friend and colleague, Pat DiNizio from 'America's Band' the world famous Smithereens![IMG]
Happy Saturday to all of you. I hope that you are doing well and are already hard at work enjoying your weekend. I have been getting a lot of gratifying and encouraging emails and Facebook postings from so many of you regarding my health and I want you to know that your interest and concern truly means the world to me. I learn...ed a long time ago that life is a series of constant adjustments and with that in mind, we are doing our very best to deal with current medical issues to get me in shape for our upcoming gigs.
I have been receiving very good care and several physical therapy sessions at home each week here at Hollingsworth House in Scotch Plains (a Victorian farmhouse built in 1885 that I purchased 20 years ago - I am only the 3rd owner of the house!) and rest assured I am receiving the best medical care and attention possible to repair the damage done to my neck and back in my recent falls.

He went on to talk about movies he was going to watch over the weekend...

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I finally got to see them before I moved away from SF. Damnit. This hurts man. I know he struggled with his health, but damn this hurts. I was hopeful I'd get to see them again.

This was very cool of him I thought. An apartment tour. Wish I could have seen this.

Dark. Jim Babjick has a great style on guitar. Early Ric guy convert to a tele.

They were also my reason for wanting a Rickenbacker. NOT the Beatles, The SMITHEREENS .

aw man, this is too much. We got to open up for them in Texas (Galveston, I think) way back in 1989 or 90. It was a thrill. Years later, he did a "Living Room Tour" and my friend's dad and some friends were able to get it together to have the privilege of his performance in their house. That friend's dad passed a few years back form ALS. May a fan and his rock star find each other again in the next place.

Thanks for songs that were part of the soundtrack of my young life, Mr. Pat.

Torch, you make some distinctions that are only slightly drenched in irony. Meet the Smithereens much?

Neither here nor there. Great band. You have no idea how good they sounded to this old fossil after surviving the late 70's schlock, filled with disco, corporate bloat rock, etc, etc.

    Smithereens, Plimsouls, Gin Blossoms,

    Anyway.

A Girl Like You is the first tune I think of.

Plus, just the name - one of my favorite band names, ever.

Yep. It's "okay". I much prefer their original stuff. I know they were huge fans, still, The Smithereens mean more to ME than the Beatles
    ABSOLUTELY

No way! One of my bucket list bands that I'll never cross off..

Indigo Blues is such a killer song.. Doesn't get any hookier than that, with production and arrangement to die for..
Gonna crank it up loud very shortly..
