    Hey all,

Posted a few days ago about my latest NGD - a Vintera Road Worn 50s Telecaster Lake Placid Blue.

As stock, it comes with a black pickguard, but a few people mentioned they thought they'd prefer a white guard.

Well, before buying my Road Worn Tele, I'd started planning a partscaster build... which I bought a 1 ply Allparts parchment guard for.

So, I've installed it quickly and tried to take the same picture I did with the black guard for a back to back comparison.

I'm still very much 50/50 on it.

I'll be honest, I initially thought I'd get the guitar, chuck on the parchment guard, and not look back. I think if it was a rosewood fretboard I'd definitely be leaning towards the parchment more than the black, but I think the black guard works well with LPB and the maple neck.

    Anyway - picture time:

Both look great. Alternate when you feel like it.

Good answer - that's kind of where I'm at with them at the moment.

Curious to see the outside world's view though!

Now I am a Blackguard guy... the white guard in my avatar got a bake lite guard not long after that picture was taken.

but on LPB that Parchment looks right!

I do think both look good--but I'm strongly in the parchment camp.

The parchment is better, once it gets aged and grungy looking.

I'm partial to Mint Green, but of course this means a thicker 8 hole pickguard. My impulse would be to have some 50s and some 60s style T styles, and use the blue on the 60s T styles.

I'm giving the black a slight advantage.

Both look good. Black picks up on the fret markers, switch tip and pup bobbin for an overall coherent esthetic.

I like black guards on just about everything. Very unoriginal of me, I know.

I like them both. But Black is what I voted for.

I like the black but I'm biased as you can see from my profile pic. I do like parchment but not really on blue guitars. Pearloid might be a different story!

I do like them both also, but I voted for the parchment. Real nice look!

The parchment feels more "period-correct" — I don't know if Fender ever did any custom color Teles with black pickguards back in the 50s — but from a strictly aesthetic perspective, the black ties into the bridge pickup, selector switch and fret markers. It's a wash for me — both look great.

I voted black but agree both look great. The reason why I prefer black is because the white looks like any other LPB tele. Although really nice, it just doesn't have that uniqueness.

Great thing about the Vintera series is you can change pickguards without removing the strings or the neck pickup.
