Some of you probably saw my post last week about finishing my tele build. Well, because apparently I can't be content just leaving something as is, I bought a cheap tort guard just to see how it looks. Turns out, I like it a lot more than I was expecting. Now, I'll likely just swap between the two occasionally but I'm curious what my fellow TDPRI'ers think. The parchment looks so damn clean, but I like the contrast the tort gives the guitar. Thoughts? You could build another Tele to put the tort guard on?

Why don't you mount the pickguard with some kind of flush mounting push release fasteners. Then you could change guards without any tools in few seconds.

I picked tort, but the parchment is nice on that as well - as would single ply black.... tough call!

definitely stick with that parchment. if anything, a one-ply parchment would be even cooler. i like the flat head screws on there. if you're going that old school on it... a one ply parchment would be a better fit

To expand on my earlier comment...

I very much like a one ply parchment on a blonde body, so much that I put a one ply parchment on my Classic Vibe... But that's with a maple fretboard.

With the rosewood I kind of like the tort...

    So build another one![IMG]

I get what you're saying, but I really like 3 ply guards.

NoJazz, I never get tired of seeing that tele of yours - or the new one, as well. Aces, total aces. However, for the blonde style tele, my vote goes for the parchment. It's classic, beyond classic, it's the Law, with a capital L. YMMV...

However, someday, I'll be putting together a natural finish tele, and most likely it will have a tort guard, because I like that look. (FWIW...)

But he can already do that with this PG. The guard doesn't have mounting screws for the neck pickup, so he can unscrew the existing PG and slide it out under the strings. Then install the new ones.

Anyways, I'm just not a fan of tort. On a very few select guitars it looks alright. But I tend to stay away from it.

Any interest in trying a white pearl on it?

I voted tort. I like contrasting colors on a guitar. All white looks too washed out and bland to me. I probably would have voted for almost any color besides white.

White is a wine tasting with cheeses and port.

    Tort is whisky and cigarettes.

I like the parchment or a real torte guard. I just ordered a blank torte guard for a strat and it looks like its printed on. No depth of color like they had in the picture on the listing.
