Anyone who has suffered through sleep paralysis knows that the "scientific explanation", as plausible as it may be, doesn't address the horror that accompany's the experience. The visitation is never pleasant.

I believe there are things in this world that we don’t know about and, if some of us have experienced them, we don’t fully understand .

That being said , think about some inconvenient truths regarding spirits/haunting/scalp-raisers :

1.) How many ghosts are experienced outside vs in a building ?

2.) How many ghosts that are “seen” are either old or children ?

2b.) Where are the middle-aged attractive ghosts ?

3.) Relatedly, why are there never, ever ghosts in bikini’s, speedos/board shorts ?

4.) Connected to #’s 1 and 3 , why so few (any ?) famous hauntings that happen on bright sunny days either in a field of wildflowers or at the beach ? *

5.) Why no office building ghosts ? (besides drenched Japanese girls with severe vocal fry) ?

    * Shout out to a great Michigan-made ghost movie “It Follows” for having not only a haunting scene outside, on a sunny day, it was also set - at a beach !

    Three years ago...
I was reading a book one night and my partner was in her chair a few feet away. I suddenly saw a person-like shape in the corner of me eye and turned around. The shape disappeared and I made some sort of noise in puzzlement. She asked what was the matter and I told her. I thought about it the next day and then put it out of my mind. The following night my mother, who had advanced Alzheimers, died in her nursing home. I sometimes wonder if she'd been able to break out of her mental prison cell for a while to visit me. Who knows... I've told this story to people before when my partner's been there to confirm it.

Yah, I used to have episodes of sleep paralysis...very realistic and very scary. Generally happen when I'm stressed about something. When I managed 30+ people, I had them almost every night. Got out of management...they went away. Your entire perception of reality is in that squishy mess of a brain...and it doesn't give a damn if it messes with you without asking permission.

I've never experienced anything that I considered to be 'paranormal'. My whole family is dead...and not one of them ever visit. Meh.

Are you sure it wasn't 3 knocks on the ceiling? Then it could mean something:

Everybody knows ghosts only come out at night where it's quiet and dark. The person encountering the phenomena must almost always be alone when it happens. (Only in movies is this not true, they take artistic liberties.) It's in the bylaws ghosts must abide by. How else could they scare you? It is a conspiracy.

I don't understand how they can have any clothing at all.

Incidentally, the best supernatural thriller I've seen in a long time is called The Conjuring. It's on Netflix.

^^^ my son and I saw the trailer for that at the movies years ago. One of the best trailers I’ve seen and it was completely inappropriate for the movie we went there to watch. (Some kids cartoon) When the ghost blows out the match, the entire theater jumped – at the trailer!

I am an atheist raised in a Christian family. I believe you as well.

I believe you think you heard 3 knocks. I am quite sure you believe it too.

Now.... saying that means paranormal whatever, gods, ghosts, gnomes, Son Goku or fairies happens is another story

My son had a few sleep paralysis episodes when he lived at home. I don't know if that has stopped since he moved out. When he was about 3 (he's 30 now), we were in the house looking for him and he came out of a room and pointed back inside and said "Gramma". He used to see her every day at my inlaws house as they used to babysit him. She had passed away a couple of months earlier. It scared the crap out of us then. Otherwise, the house has been fine when it comes to apparitions. My wife said that she has heard the odd knock on the walls in the family room when she's in there...it's just that I never have.

We are the original homeowners and the whole survey is built on an old fruit farm. So no one has died or been murdered in the house.

As for it being far worse than the spirits of dead people like someone said, I've read that it could be the devil or death or that the knocks are mocking the Holy Trinity. I was born and raised Catholic and I believe in God. I never have played with a Ouiji board and I despise horror movies.

    Ya, I'm boring...

I had to replace my refrigerator late last year.
Sometimes, not always, when it ends the cooling cycle there are 1 to 3 loud raps. I've gone to the back door expecting someone to be there. It drives my dog and parrot nuts.
Maytag came out cause it's under warranty and says "that's normal".
Sure, until the warranty period ends.
