I'm starting a build project for 2023, a Paisley Blue Thinline Tele. Body is on its way through shipping currently - pic from the seller attached. It's certainly not for everyone but I think it'll be a great looking guitar. I've got a tinted maple neck to partner it.

My question is, what pickguard colour would you go for? Black? White? Something else - maybe Adonized Silver? Such a big decision (not really but it's fun)!

I might go with a clear one, but now that I think about it silver might look amazing.

Wow that's a gorgeous body! Do you mind telling me where you got it? (the seller)?

I'd start with white pearloid, but I love white pearloid, so...

Clear would also be a solid choice on a body that beautiful.

I wondered about clear, but I'm a little concerned that the size of the cavities on full display might look strange when visible under the guard! I'm leaning towards silver, but adonized guards seem to be expensive...

I'll send you a message for the exact seller as I certainly don't want to look like I'm promoting them specifically - I have no affiliation at all, and don't want to fall foul of any TDPRI rules! However there appear to be a lot of import sellers of sparkle and paisley finished bodies on ebay all selling much the same products.

White perloid certainly is a good place to start. I usually prefer a plain guard but I think on this body, pearloid might suit better!

Maybe a bit too Chinese for some people.

That's certainly outlandish, and yet I don't hate it...

Keep in mind that there's no rule saying you must have one at all. I made a modern-style Tele that simply looked better without one.

I agree, in fact I'm a big fan of that look! Would love to see a picture if you have one?

However, in this I think the size of the control cavity in particular has me leaning towards a pickguard.

Anodized silver yes! in the small pickguard version for Thinlines if possible, given your controls' cavity size.

Looks killer - love the matching headstock! Well done! No pickguard really suits it too!
Was a gift to my nephew. Made it when I was going through cancer treatment and wanted to give him something special. Best piece I've made so far. Was really proud that it set up well enough to make a young shredder happy.

I'd like to know where you got that body too; someone I know wants me to make them a pink paisley Tele ala James Burton. I've already got one that I use for Elvis tribute shows; the body for that one came from Guitarfetish but they no longer carry that body in that finish. Thanks!

Tricky …. It depends on how much flashier you wanna make it. If you’re kinda ok, choose something that doesn’t make a big contrast with the body. That will be internal contrast ( adding on what is in there already, actually) ; the external contrast is what the guitar will look like as a whole vs reality. Use something like Photoshop , or Gimp to try it out.It works best.

If the neck will be rosewood, 1 ply white PG.
If the neck is maple, 1 ply black.
