I've got an off white partscaster that I've had for a while, it's got a genuine Fender neck and plays like a dream. I would like to make the body more of a blonde finish but don't really want to refinish it, the question is is there any sort of paint, stain that will work on top of what's on there. The body has a poly finish as well.

Probably just rough it up a bit with 220 and paint over it.

You can paint over stain, but you can't stain over paint. So unless you are going to take it back to raw wood, forget about stain. But, as @RodeoTex mentions, just clean and lightly sand the shine off of the poly and it should accept most any paint.
