I haven't been in a very long time, but my family used to drive through there at least once a month to visit my grandmother in Kentucky. It's a pretty area that I've always had a fondness for. Pretty town, nice folks.
Interesting tidbit: JD Wilkes from the Legendary Shack Shakers has ties to that place.

Mrs Greg70 and I have been to Kentucky Lake a few times and are going back again this fall. We pass through Paducah on the way there. The downtown area has some nice old buildings and a couple of small museums. We ate at Strickland's Seafood and it was really good. For a real treat, go about 25 miles east to Grand Rivers and eat at Patti's 1880's settlement. It's an awesome restaurant with a huge giftshop, gardens, and several out buildings. It's almost like a small theme park. It gets full so you'll want reservations.

Well Dang! Just when I thought of visiting - nope.
It's fine to visit. It was the people that worked at the plant for years that got cancer. I took a tour of the decommissioned plant, it was pretty cool. No problem for short-term visits.

Drive across the Ohio River to Metropolis, Illinois….everything there is Superman-themed….the newspaper is The Daily Planet….the drug store is Jimmy Olsen’s Drugs…there is a 20 ft. tall statue of Superman in front of the courthouse…and there’s a casino there.

I had been meaning to make a pilgrimage to Metropolis since I was a little kid, and I finally got the chance once on tour. Only thing was I came through at 2 am. That Superman statue is no doubt surreal in the daytime, but at 2 am, all lit up in front of the courthouse, it's amazing!
