Do you buy them? Use them? Can you recommend a manufacturer?

I bought a great fitting Hotcovers slipover, for my gigging favourite- and it arrived yesterday. Tough, Cordura- like outer fabric and half an inch of padding inside. Materials are good quality and the stitching seems flawless. Made in Scotland, not expensive. Apparently, the company make OE covers, for Blackstar amps, amongst others.

I've never bothered with such things before, when amps travelled in the back of my Toyota, usually. Nowadays, I tend to ride along to gigs in my buddy's car, along with the PA and his drum kit. I've been lucky, in the past- but a recent incident, featuring one of my amp's EL84s, rolling around on a wet bar room floor, reminded me how chaotic load-ins and get-outs can be. A little more protection, with negligible added weight, now seems like the smart move; in the past, I never gave such things much thought.

Yes, studio slips are the way to go.

I have them on a Fralin VVT combo and a '49 Epiphone Century amp. On the Epiphone, they confirmed my measurements and reviewed a photo to make absolutely certain that it fit like a glove.....and it did. Love their covers.

And I “third” this.

I have purchased multiple covers from Studio Slips and they were always perfect.

I even have a padded Clamshell model for my pedalboard.

Accept no substitutes. ;)

On the VVT combo, I opted for some options. It has a zippered pouch, double padded, and extra handles that are strong enough to carry the 40 lb amp with ease.

I make my own.

But if I were buying, it would be Tuki. Several pals of mine have Tuki covers and they are extremely well made.

I would never transport an amp without a case or cover (a case usually for heads).

Even if it’s in a relatively safe place during transport, there are alway bad weather concerns and other unpredictable situations (as the OP alluded to) not to mention well-meaning people wanting to help with moving stuff and accidentally bumping into things…

What a handsome kitty!
I created a monster when I put her on the "Catana" for the picture pun :D

She had never been up there before, now she won't stop going up there :(

Had to add some more fur protection.
I put the original BOSS cover over the Studio Slips cover.
I think she might actually like the microfiber :(

P.S. This is the 3rd Studio Slips amp cover I have had made. First was for my original Mustang III and then one for the Tone Master Deluxe Reverb and now the Katana Artist. Each one has been a perfect fit and I generally get them padded. The Katana cover has a slit in the back with a velcro closure so I can take the cover off and put it back on while it is still plugged in.

I made one for local travel some time ago. Measured the amp and went to the fabric store where I bought some backed vinyl, cut it into 3 pieces, and sewed it up using french fell seams that I learned from work on fabric covered aircraft. The handle hole was the most difficult part because I was dumb for waiting until the rest of the sewing was finished before tending to it. Sorry, no pic as it is in a storage unit as I type this. I think, including a heavy needle for the sewing machine, the cost was about $15.

Stretched an old frayed Gruhn Guitars T-shirt over my new old vox amp. If padding is needed it would be 3 T-shirts or maybe a sweat shirt. Cheap and thrifty. Cheapskate actually.
I have a few D2F covers. Too bad they folded after the owner's death.

I would never buy from Tuki again. When the padding disintegrated it left a sticky residue on the inside and outside of my 62 Fender Vibrolux. I had to clean inside and out including all the pots and jacks. Tuki would not even stand behind the cover. Never again.
Thanks John
