Subwoofer... I’m liking the Bassboss DJ18S

Remodeling is under way. I’m headed there to get the front of the stage closed in so the understage cavity doesn’t couple with the subwoofer. Right now it’s just a curtain for the stage front.

I'll be damned, that's just down the street from where I used to work!

You must have walked under that marquee. I walked under it many times.

no, it wasn't there when I was there

looks like it's right across the street from Tabby's relocated Blues Box

Tabby's! A friend and I were there one night Tabby was playing there. (His son showed up, wish I could remember his name. He gained some national attention.)
Anyway, the group we were with left...they left with both cars. At closing time, the bartender insisted on escorting us across the street to the bus station to get a cab. He said he didn't want any problems.

    Blues Box, that was it.
Tabby's E string was easily a quarter step out of tune...FOR THE WHOLE SET.
Apparently nobody in the band wanted to point that out.

No experience with PAs myself, every venue i've played here has a house PA and leaves the mixing up to the band (or more commonly bands all chip in to hire a sound guy, the bars usually have afew they can recommend).

I’m back at the bar building some seating for my fans. As of now the managers seem to agree on a simple PA system that most bands can operate. They got word that the system that used to be here was too complicated.

Nice to see it coming along!

I must admit, I still worry that any system a band is expected to figure out cold will be "too complicated."

But maybe I'm just too pessimistic.

Post some pics as you get it set up.

Oh! A laminated sheet could be a good explainer tool for the bands... You'll want to point out any quirks of your particular system.

I think the laminated sheet might work well. I like the page on the venues website that details the equipment.

Keep in mind that it will be impossible to please every one, a few years ago I was having lunch in a fairly nice place w/ a performance space in the back, I was impressed by the older but decent system based around some classic CV speakers. About 15 min in to my meal the "talent" (regional beach band) shows up for load in/ SC and the frontman really lays in to the manager "this isn't a pro system.. our rider... yada yada " based on the amps and guitars they were packing ( Semi pro SS gear from major makers, mid line imported drums and guitars) I doubt, that they had ever seen or played thru a truly pro system. She told them she had never had a complaint; they were under contract, and they didn't need to play, the house band would cover for them but they wound not be paid, and they would not be back. The "roadie" /sound guy shows up, with some gear, glances in to the room and says it will be fine.. I stopped by later and he had them sounding real good at the back of the bar..

So keep it simple. I noticed the rack mixer they took out all the extras. These have similar I/O.

A place to set for my fans. You can do a lot of things with your luthier tools. I offered to shoot it with nitrocellulose lacquer for $4000 but they passed. Will have some high top tables in front of it. USB chargers on top so my fans can live stream my performance all night. OK back to Texas.

This. I've done some gigs at places where they give the manager a phone app to run the digital mixer from the bar/host desk. What a disaster. Don't let owners/managers/bartenders near a mixer, just don't.

I'd advise an analog 16 channel board with a stereo power amp and EV mains and monitors (or a 16 channel board and four EV powered speakers). They come in all sizes. Label the board with masking tape ... inputs and wire ins and outs, just to be readable in the dark. Also, put a desk or music stand light on the board.

Label the snake on stage- guitar 1, guitar 2, vocal 1, etc. If everything is plugged into the snake correctly on stage then the board is wired right and all that is needed is to fine tune levels and EQ.

An option to go stereo for those that use it, and a good sound guy that understands a good mix and the right amount of moving air will get the girls on the dance floor.

UPDATE. The bar has been open about two weeks. Slow rolled the first week. One band end of first week. Had 3 bands this weekend. Here’s some band videos on there site. https://m.facebook.com/registerbardowntown/
Thinking about hooking them up with a good mic for better sound on the smartphone videos.

The PA has been doing well. Plenty volume, no feedback. Because I installed powered mains (ceiling) and have two powered monitors, the larger bands have brought their own mixer and plugged into the house speakers. Will do a PA upgrade after watching what the bands do for a few months. Likely more powered monitors, a digital mixer giving bands a choice of simple analog mixer or digital house mixer or their own mixer.
