Tele Thinline or actual semi-hollow? Two different things. I don't care about shielding anyway, it barely does anything anyway. You Can shield a Tele thinline just like any guitar. A Casino is fully hollow and has always had P-90s, no problem.

Laren, not that it really matters but I am with Arfage in the difference between a chambered solid body like a telecaster thin line and what has traditionally been called a semi-hollow guitar like a Gibson 335. I know you can argue that the chambered guitar is "semi hollowed out" inside - its just what I expect to see when I hear the terms. I also associate the term "hollow body" with specific Gibson style guitars.

Whatever you want to call it just a couple of minor things about P90's. They do require a different route than either single coils or humbuckers and they have a couple of ways of mounting. That does somewhat limit your choices to the P90 size and shape. It also slightly limits your choices of bridges - you are probably wise to make that decision before you route anything. (you also know that I am an advocate of doing the neck pocket and fitting the neck before you do any other holes in the body).

I have played a number of P90 guitars that have crossed my workbench, I guess I don't have strong feelings about them. I have only built one with a P90 in it, it was one of the barncasters and was not chambered. I put the pickup in the neck, thats what the guy I was building for wanted and he is quite happy with the guitar. The particulalr pickup was the kind that screws thru the pup into the wood behind it, its got a piece of foam in between. (Its just sitting in the hole for this picture)

Not sure I understand the issue. Hollow 330s and similar guitars are offered with P90s. The semi-hollow 335's and their many homages ARE solidbody where the pickups go and can take P90s as easily as humbuckers, and both work well.

It will basically be like my last one but with soapbar P90s and a toggle in the top like an LP.
Have hammer make guitar. Don't care what it's called.

I only have one guitar with P-90's. A Hamer Special, which is like an SG to me. It rips and snorts. Yeah baby.

I'm building the one in my avatar, and I'm going to use the space to run a dummy coil - a strat single coil at about the 7.5k of the P90s, but with no magnetic field. I will have a switch for that - so I can switch the dummy coil on/off for both P90s.
