What's your recommendation for an authentic P90 that is humbucker sized?

It could be either single or double coil. Thanks!

There is no "authentic" p90 in humbucker size. Wolfe at Wolftetone had a kickstarter going to make some real ones but I think it got faltered by lack of support. It's been debated and argued time and again but there really isnt an "authentic" one. That said, there are plenty of "p90-flavored" humbucker-sized pickups out there. Phat Cats, GFS Dream 90, Klein, even Gibson makes their version.

I dunno if its humbucker sized but I just put a Tonerider Vintage 90 P-90 in my MIM which was pre-routed for a humbucker and it just fit, perfectly. Nice classic P-90 sound and quality construction at a very good price.

I have a Tonerider Rebel 90 in the neck position of my LP Jr.-style build. I've been very happy with the tone and, as Johnny mentioned, the price is excellent.

Harmonic Design Z90 sounds killer but isn't cheap.

Artec makes a decent P-90, single coil Humbucker sized , fits right in the HB cavity, no carving or resizing. It's viewed as a "budget" pup brand, & I've heard a lot of good things about them. rockaudio.com has them pretty reasonable.

I don't know about authentic, but Gibson's P94 is a very nice sounding pup. I have a pair in my SG.

P rail by SD has a great P-90 sound and has a couple other sounds thrown in for fun. Its the best humbucker sized one that I have tried.

GFS have a range of hum-sized P90s, such as the Mean 90 and Dream 90. They get good reviews, and have been around a long time, so i would see them as a good bet. I have two sets of the GFS Brooklyn P90s, hot ceramic, small coil. They weren't popular, but I like them a lot.

I have several in guitars. first is Railhammer H90 Gnarly bridge/neck set, probably my favorite pups of all time!
next is Rio Grande Fat Bastard/Bastard set going in a sapele guitar that I'm wet sanding and polishing now. Should have it together tomorrow.

Another vote for the Mean 90. Nice pickups, at a nice price.

Also, if a pickup is double coil, it isn't even close to a P90.

The 'burst Strat with the two Mean 90s is 400% badass looking. I love it.

The surf green/pearloid instrument is quite a head-turner, too...what's its story? Is there a build thread on it you could direct me to, or something?

Thanks, Yes, I built it last year. It's an original design, as much as any can be. Alder body, maple neck, ebony FB. It's a smaller body version of these. BlueFlame.jpg IMG_3636.jpg
