Actress Julia Garner does a good job with Ruth's accent, but it definitely leans towards rural Carolina. I have a good friend from Gastonia and her family have accents that are close to Ruth's. Julia Garner's generally good accent work is the exception that proves the rule that most actors fail miserably at doing a good modern southern accent. The first misstep most non-southern actors make is not understanding that there isn't a uniform 'southern accent' but many distinct variations.

LOVE Ozark! it is just a really good show to examine your whole view on good and bad, right and wrong, smart and dumb....

the thing I keep returning to in watching these type shows is that I am reminded that we are so much closer to barbarism and the fundamentals and brutality of surviving and fighting to gain control of our surroundings than we think on a regular day...

Good/bad, right/wrong, smart/dumb...you nailed it! Also, I am intrigued by way the show demonstrates how our personal decisions/choices are inescapably intertwined with the decisions/choices of family, friends and enemies. Control of our lives is often an illusion that we constantly battle.

well yeah! if you live in a small, medium sized town and your uncle gets caught celebrating valentine's day with a goat.... well, it will change your life arc.

I've enjoyed it very much. Bateman is awesome. The twists and turns are great. As are the mix of smart people (good and evil) and dumb bad guys.

    Looking forward to season 3.

Oh, and bonus points with me for using the song "Wichita Lineman" so skillfully at the beginning and end of an episode in Season 2--love that song!!!

Just finished binge watching the first season. That’s some dark stuff right there.

Having come up in the Ozarks, I was definitely a little confused with some sights and accents at first as I thought it was shot on-location, but it definitely is believable enough for the most part. The young blonde chick's accent sounds real wrong, though.

Certainly still an enjoyable show, though.
