If I could play that song I'd happily play it for your audience! It's just that full bends tend to be my arch nemesis and it would be a bird that's less than free without them...
The outro solo is just awesome and it's become a meme which makes it funny as hell to boot.
Hell, even Dream Theater played the Freebird outro solo tacked onto their live version of Take The Time.

On this concert they also spliced in the Enter Sandman(speaking of overplayed) riff into another one of their songs(also at the end of it).

Almost all the songs you hear at most wedding receptions.

I can’t express how much I hate “The Cupid Shuffle.”

Remind you to buy you a beer next time we meet in a bar! :)
'Round these parts we shout for Paranoid(by Balck Sabbath, that is) but that's the local flavor of the same mechanic.
The actual line is(SOITTAKAA PARANOID!!!(Play Paranoid)).

Who plays more than one cover song a set if it’s not Halloween?

Why EVER play a song you’re not excited about?

That’s not fair to the audience.

Because the band leader and most of the people in the band, not to mention the drunk audience are excited about it?
My best guess, but I'm no fount of facts either... I quit the damn band which was playing covers that made me physically ill.

I was in a pub in Savannah a few years back and this band had a sign
    $50 brown eyed girl
    $30 mustang Sally
    $40 sweet home Alabama

they said they did it first since they did not want to play. Turns out it became a big money maker as night goes on

I can think of lots of songs I don't want to hear a bar band play, because I don't like good songs being butchered. Depends on the band of course. And if it was my bar band I'd be happy to play them :D

But OK, I'll say Bad Moon Rising.

Try telling that to the audience.

'Loathe' is a bit strong, for me. There are some songs I get tired of hearing/playing, some that are mentioned above. But I really enjoy playing for people and if they are liking us enough to request a tired old warhorse I'm happy to play it and even happier when they are up dancing....and suddenly the song ain't so bad. I do play for me, but also for anyone listening. :)

I recall a club in Natchez Mississippi where a guy loved "Low Down" ~ Boz Scaggs. He requested it 2 or 3 times a night by writing "Low Down" on a $20 bill. Helped pay the band's bar bill.

I don't really loathe any songs either, but "What songs do you find mildly distasteful after having the audience request them an inordinate number of times . . . night, after night, after night?" is a little awkward. ;)

The band I was in during the mid 70s played a New Years Eve party for the local Jaycees.
The last set they requested Proud Mary 17 times in a row, and we played it.
The tips were wonderful, but if I ever hear that song again...

    Here's another fun song:

    He Stopped Loving Her Today.
    Snorefest.
    Maudlin.
    Boring to play.
It gets requested in country bar band land quite often.
    Retch.

3 or 4 years ago we were walking through Disney Springs (outdoor Mall type place near Disney World). Disney had contracted about 4 different bands to play across different little stages across the place.

We heard 3 different bands play Wagon wheel that night, who knows if we were even there 2 hours! It was like walk 200 yards and there was another band but they were also playing Wagon Wheel!

But then we got to one end there was a band playing originals at one end that had some absolutely killer stuff and great guitar playing. It kind of made it all better.

I'm almost to the point I don't even want to ever hear a cover band again. Just hire someone that plays original stuff, I don't care if the songs aren't hits I'd much rather hear something I never heard before.

This thread reminds me of this joke:

How many female singers does it take to sing "Crazy" ?

    All of them, apparently...
