I'm always intrigued by the concept of creating marketing hype for a pedal and charging way too much for it. I guess there's a sucker born every minute, but some of the things I've seen are just baffling.

    Exhibit A: http://rochester.craigslist.org/msg/4874966697.html

$400 for a TS9? Just because it's vintage? At the end of the day it's still a TS9 and probably indiscernable from a modern TS9 and not as good or reliable as a newer TS808 circuit. What level of cork sniffers are really going to pull that pedal off your board to read the label on the bottom?

    Exhibit B: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Boss-DM-2-A...764?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item2a4a5acb8c

Really? I know it's a vintage "Black Label" Boss pedal, but it's still a Boss analog Delay pedal. What can that thing do that you can't accomplish with a Carbon Copy?

I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here but felt compelled to post this, as the CL find just floored me. The world we live in...

    Carry on!

More than $100 and I feel I'm overpaying.

This obsession people have with pedals is intriguing to me. For the price of some of these things you buy a new amp.

I understand a few (reverb, od/fuzz. delay). Pretty standard. But these 15 pedal pedalboards. If you get a little noise how do you trace that noise on a board that size? I dunno. More hassle and expense than it's worth.

On the other hand I recently picked up an Expandora build for about 50 bucks.

Little Bear pedals are very good and very inexpensive, if you watch their auctions and are patient. I have a rat clone and a wooly mammoth clone from them. Both sound great and were super cheap

The Klon craze has reached another level of excess. For $2855 I'd buy a Matchless DC-30 and be done with pedals.

I'm ok with the dm-2 price. the ts-9 doesn't seem legit and probably isn't

I bet that amp wouldn't have free shipping though! Better go w/ the Klon.

There are a few pedals I'll pay over $100 but the vast majority of them I pay less than $100. Although I have a bunch of pedals (I collect them), I only have a select few on my pedalboard. Currently I have:

    1) Compressor
    2) Overdrive
    3) Analog Delay
    4) Digital Delay
    5) Phaser

Even at my most extreme I may have 1 or 2 more.

If you pay more than 100 dollars for a pedal it's over priced.

Don't care how many rainbows, fairy dust or unicorns were used making it sound like that vintage pedal you once had or read about. It ain't going to make your crappy playing sound better. Only years of practicing will make sound better.

You can have great tone and lousy chops

You can also have great chops and lousy tone

I do think the chops win out, though

ALTHOUGH once in awhile, with great tone, it almost plays itself. Or it seems that way. Last night I dialed up what I imagine a slightly driven Dumble tone to be, on my Mustang.

    It was like that.

I've been done with pedals for a good while except for boost and reverb (for my non-reverb amps). Very liberating.
