Is this the new American older male ?

You know those old tintypes/early photographs, especially lawmakers, Civil War generals, people at a family gathering?

And to us now, all the old dudes look the same? Like there’s hardly a one that is clean-shaven? Most of them have the same length hair and the same facial hair and the same dark scratchy suit ?

Have there always been herds ?

If you think about it, shaving is more unnatural than NOT shaving.

If I let any kind of facial hair grow, it ages me 15 years at least.

Even the creepy “indicted coach” mustache-only look.

My facial hair and hair-cut has been pretty much the same for the last 25 years.

It is a bit more gray (especially the beard), but the same.

My weight is still the same, too.

That's an A+ humblebrag! Wish I had my hair from 25 years ago, just a bit grayer. Instead I have very little gray hair because I have much less hair in general. Would love to rock the silver fox look!

Nailed me, except for the goatee, but, I've had my mustache for going on 50 years. Let's just say hair, regardless of its location, hasn't been my friend since my early to mid thirties.

change "not slim" to "overweight" (I get you're trying to be polite) and I'd say you're spot-on.

    Nearly everyone's fat nowadays.

    It's depressing.

Back then..life was too busy farming..working.ect to keep alive..appearance probably wasnt ..the vain situation it has become...the look at me ..look at me thing going ..selfies..senseless self promotion...going to the barber shop or shaving at home was a bigger deal. more outdoor living..hair can actually protect & keep warm. Society's look of what is proper is a a crock...be who ya are..dont be a fake

You stop worrying what other people think about you once you realize that other people never really think about you.

I wish. Since my back started reminding me that I was not 40 years old I have probably put back on 20 pounds. On the other hand, I start PT on Monday !
    Excited to get moving again.

Indeed. I wish self-conscious teenagers realized this.

Yes. We all use tribal costumes, markers, and language to identify ourselves. How we decorate ourselves tells other people which tribe we belong to or which culture we subscribe to.

    It's funny you never noticed!

Most tribes don't bother me. Here's one that does: the server tribe, a.k.a. waiter/waitress-ese. I'm going to leave a 50% tip if I ever have a server who doesn't say:

    - guys
    - perfect
    - awesome
    - I'll be taking care of you.
    - Did you leave room for dessert?

My wife isn't a guy, eggs easy over are not perfect, French fries should not inspire awe, I'm not an invalid, and I don't have a pie storage compartment in my left leg.

At some point, we stop caring what other people think and turn to just doing what makes us happy.
