I’ve got an Ovation acoustic, just one of the Celebrity series made in China. It’s pretty easy to play: this is one of the Super Shallow bodies. I never try to play without a strap, I don’t think it would sit nice without!
I bought it to go on a Guitar Circle course with Robert Fripp earlier this year. So I have heard 180 Ovations playing all at once… and also various smaller groups, mainly 4 - 6 players. One of my fellow attendees said the Ovation acoustic sound may not be a tone you’d normally look for in an acoustic guitar but for guitar ensembles it works very well: a good clear attack and not too much sustain, and a mid-high focus that stops the sound getting muddy when played en masse.

Ovation (shallow) is recommended in GC for ergonomic reasons. There are also lots of Beaudoux GC models in use. Beaudoux don' t make them anymore AFAIK. I use an early nineties 1869 Ovation, refretted ss, nice guitar.

My first band, College 1978/9,
Had some pretty cool guitars in it, even though we could barely play- green!
(we wanted to be a Country-Rock/Southern-Rock Band, oy!!)

Anyway, I played a '76 Les Paul Signature, and our lead singer ( a lady killer!) played an Ovation Glenn Campbell and a red Fender Duo-Sonic!
Bass player played a black, SEKOVA Les Paul bass copy
Sorry, no pics

I played one on a recording session in the late 80's because the producer ordered me to use it. I laid down like 40-50 tracks of strumming over the course of 2 days.
It was almost impossible to sit with it in the lap and try to make it stay in place in front of the mic. And it sounded like crap.
I still get terrible flashbacks every time I see one 😅

you could play them live and not feedback. I remember seeing eddie rabbit at the palomino club and thinking I kinda wanted one. John Stewart played one (and turner electric) and while I thought that was cool, his other guitar player had a gold top 50's les paul and a gold top strat through a fender super reverb that I thought was cooler...

Then, I saw Albert Lee and the electric discussion was solved.

I bought an ovation a couple of years ago and fixed it up... I'm gonna re record this song and want the original sound.

Is this an Ovation? I have to say Hank Marvin looks better with a red Fender Stratocaster round his neck, than an Ovation on his knee, but then so would anyone...

I wonder for some time if I should get a 12 string Ovation. But I hear the bowl back feels weird and the guitar slips away when playing sitting down.
Yeah, but they play great and are right in tune: perfect intonation on a 12 string? Fugeddaboutit)))
