I actually had to buy some more checks recently. It had been so long since I've bought checks, I forgot to get duplicate checks. Really with the online app, it is not a big deal. I can view images of checks online, no real need for duplicates anymore.

We will occcasionally write a personal check to a charity organization.

In my business I write checks weekly. In a specific segment of used/fine/rare bookselling, dealers send books with invoice to other dealers and collector customers. I put a check in the mail the day after I receive an invoice.

Bank of America is not known for being a good bank for personal accounts. If you have never asked for a stop payment in the past, they should do it for free. We ordered new checks a few years back that were supposed to arrive though the USPS. They never arrived. I called our Credit Union at the time and told them of this and they put a stop check on all the check numbers that were supposed to have been delivered for no charge at all.
I used to really like Bank of America until they screwed me on a credit card...and I mean shady as hell.

I had 2 credit cards with them (one was my old government issued card and one personal) but only one was ever used. The other was a dormant account that I just kept open for nostalgia reasons. Well, I screwed up one month and sent my online payment to the dormant account instead of the active one. They slammed me for being late and refused to understand that I sent money to a zero balance account by mistake. Clearly, they received my money as it showed a $500 credit on the dormant account.

That late payment triggered a credit review where they claimed to have pulled my credit reports and found that I was in default on 7 mortgages so they were closing my accounts and demanding full payment. I pulled my own reports because I only have one mortgage and it was certainly not in default...assumed some ID fraud was in play. It wasn't, my reports were clean, but Bank of America insisted otherwise and closed my accounts while demanding full payment immediately. It took me 4 months of extreme effort to pay it off.

The only banks that I have never had a negative thing happen has been Wachovia and US Bank....knock on wood.

On the other hand, you can scan a check with your phone and deposit it with modern banks! How the heck do they even know it's you????????????

Why would someone fraudulently deposit money in your account?

E X A C T L Y ......my point with the bank!
"So you're worried about me DEPOSITING money in the bank, and if it does get rejected you're gonna charge me $35 bounced check fee anyway? What's the downside here?"

Banks suck!
They don’t want your checking account business. They pay you a pittance for your savings but lend that money out at huge rates and profits.
I started using an online bank last summer when my credit union had a massive information systems meltdown that affected online banking for over 6 weeks. I haven’t missed having a local bank at all.

I just don't get this not depositing checks thing... It takes like 30 seconds to do on your banking app. I also don't get writing checks when you can use a debit card. The only time we ever write a check is when its a service won't take a card. I'm looking at you dog groomer.
