My plans show a 1" hole to the cavity for the output jack. The sides of my body minus the carve is only 1.5".
Is this right? Is there a jack type for shallower guitars? No way am i going to try the 1" hole. Thanks for your help.

Something like this...

What about the jack itself? The strat i built had the switchcraft jack these do require a big hole. Is there a jack that uses a 3/4" or smaller bore hole? Thanks guys

an electrosocket uses a 7/8" hole....

this body is barely 1 5/8" thick....

I clamp a block on either side of the area when I drill ..to stop the chance of any splitting out....

Thanks fellas. I got the 7/8 drilled no prob!
That extra 1/8 would have made me nervous though.

if you're ever having trouble getting your jack hole straight and centered, i've adopted the technique of employing a self centering dowling jig and drilling 1/4" pilot hole through to the inside of the cavity. then you can go in with a 7/8" holesaw. the pilot hole will guide the pilot bit within the hole saw. this is especially helpful with double bound bodies where an off center hole is clearly noticed.

I use a big piece of angle iron and my drill press like the pic attached. It's seems to be pretty stiff and th guitar body doesn't really try to move when drilling.

If you use a jack like moose shows in combination with a LP type jack plate or a football jack plate, you only need a 22mm drill/forstner bit and make a rather deep hole, that is all.
