Nah, that doesn’t come into play until much, much later.
I must say it was fun researching and visiting music stores when major GAS was burning as I evolved as a player, but I'm enjoying the "playing-what-I-have" even more these days than any GAS crisis.
Old age and a lack of opportunities to play/perform with others have cured my GAS - no Pepto-Bismol required.
I have 4 electrics, 3 acoustic/electrics, 1 amp for electric guitar, 1 amp for acoustic.
Not counting bass guitars and amps, I've gone through 46 guitars and 34 amps since I was a teenager in the '60's.
I'm happy with what I've got now.
I have 10 electrics and 7 acoustics plus a Deering banjitar and a cheap lap steel.
Just bought a strat yesterday. A 2010 John Mayer, 3T burst, alder, African rosewood - (FAT) neck.
The tank is full for a while. With the needle pegged FULL.
I like to try different guitars out.
Sometimes I buy them to do that, in depth.
I buy, sell and trade fairly often.
I guess I’m “catching and releasing” them.
I seem to do this most often with Gibson type, two pickup guitars.
I’ve been doing this for decades.
I suppose I must enjoy the quest.
Exactly! Except I love pedals and amps, and that's been the main drug lately…
Exactly! Aw, shucks. And: IME, with a bit of love and minor upgrades, Epis are great.
I'm done apart from another Strat, vintage Tele, a Mustang, a Musicmaster, a P Bass, an ES 335, maybe an LP Special, Maybe a Musicman Stingray, still not quite over Flying Vs and I have a few parts to make a project. Oh yeah, still looking for an SG. And not ruled out a jazz box. Or a 12 string.
Apart from that, I'm completely done... :/
