Got a email from one of the managers at my local GC. I’ve bought a lot from this location. It’s one of the better GCs I frequent. It read:

    15% off
    any single non sale item
    Valid thru 10/21/19
    Maximum discount $500.

Exclusions and limitations: $500 maximum discount. Not to be used in conjunction with other coupons, promotions or offers. No cash value. Excludes discounted and clearance items, price matches, used/vintage, tax/shipping charges, scratch and dent, Gift Cards and musician services (Pro Coverage, Repairs, Rentals and Lessons).

    Ok, fair enough so far....

Products from the following manufacturers are excluded: A Designs, ADAM Audio, Aguilar, Allen & Heath, Alvarez, Ampeg, Antelope Audio, Apogee, Apple, Arturia, Ashdown, Ashly Audio, Avantone, Avid, BAE, Beetronics FX, Blackstar, Bose, BOSS, Burl Audio, Caparison Guitars, Catalinbread, Chapman, Crate, Cusack Music, D.W. Fearn, Dangerous Music, Dave Smith Instruments, Dean Markley, Duesenberg USA, EarthQuaker Devices, Earthworks, Electro-Harmonix, elysia, Empress Effects, Epiphone, Ernie Ball Music Man, EVH, Fender, Fender Custom Shop, Focal, Focusrite, Fostex, Friedman, Fulltone, Fulltone Custom Shop, Gallien-Krueger, Gibson, Gibson Custom, Golden Age Project, GoPro, HeadRush, Heritage Audio, iConnectivity, ISP Technologies, iZotope, JHS Pedals, Kali Audio, Keeley, Kemper, Korg, Kurzweil, Kush Audio, LaChapell Audio, Lâg Guitars, Lewitt Audio Microphones, Lindell Audio, Mackie, Manley, Marshall, Martin, MEINL, Metric Halo, Millennia, Milkman Sound, Mojave Audio, Moog, MOTU, Native Instruments, Neumann, Nord, Novation, Orange Amplifiers, Paiste, Pettyjohn Electronics, Phoenix Audio, Primacoustic, PRS, Radial Engineering, Randall, Rane, Reloop, Reverend, RME, Rockett Pedals, Roland, Royer, Ruach Music, sE Electronics, Sennheiser, Serato, S.E. Coupon is redeemable in-store, online or at 877-687-5403 only with valid coupon code.

Thanks GC!! I’ll rush right in with this!

Some idiot sitting behind a desk dreamt this nonsense up then passes an out a memo with the new directive that manage will email this to the folks on their list. Makes the poor managers look bad to their customers IMO.

I would hope this would be the case.
But it would be a huge waste of time if they don’t circumvent thier own coupon. Could be a “what do I have to loose” card on something you were going to buy anyway.

Basically a legal disclaimer. These manufactures don't want retailers discounting they're products. I could go to a GC and sneeze on a piece of gear, say Oh look it has a smudge and get 10% off. All in the way you hold your face and stand your ground.

the manufacturers don't allow the discount to be advertised... they have a sale... and if you apply the coupon, you'll get the discount... it is a little sleight of hand... confusing though...

Harbor Freight does this all the time....

The rules of this forum require me to show respect to everyone.

I just wish the people that start such threads would show the rest of us some respect, and use the Search function. We've already explained how to navigate around this. This is not rocket surgery.

The problem here is, not the exclusions, as Getbent has explained. The problem is the discount isn't 25%.

I buy used. So I always get a discount.

The only thing that is required is patience.

Geez. How many times do we need to go over this?

Some of those brands will not give permission to retailers for "advertised" discounts. That means you can't just put in the code and get the discount. If DOES mean that if you call or talk to rep in person, they may be able to give you the discount.

    YOU. HAVE. TO. CALL.

I think it helps them legally wiggle around the MAP price.

Not may. If you make a sufficient effort, they will give you the discount.

Now, I know the 60% discounts some of us here were getting ten years ago at GC and Sam Ash, are pretty rare these days, but I am not convinced that certain people even want to buy the items they're complaining about. Which is fine since some prices (even with the discount) is pretty high. Buying used does make much more sense, now that retail sales prices and non retail prices have diverged so dramatically. We saw cases where people on E-Bay paid a 30% premium (before shipping) over the same item in the brick and mortar store, in 2007. Crazy times, that are over.
