Ooops... Well, as the song says : "The first cut is the deepest". In some cases, trying to fix a chip in poly may ends up looking worse than the ding itself. My advice is, to quote your own words, to "leave it as part of the history" (Nevertheless, there are amazingly talented people here on the TDPRI who eventually may chime in and provide you with good information about how to take care of this)

Go with the flow, at least you won't worry too much about knocking it again.

Give it another 10 years and you won't even notice that one.

At least you won't be so worried about it in future.

As you said, it's the first part of the history.

Once you become famous, people will be trying to replicate that chip for the OneEyeDog relic model.

If it were my guitar I'd let it keep relic'ing which would look awesome especially with that two tone sunburst.Don't baby it too much and be a little rough with it so that it acquires more dings and give a cool natural relic look.If you are not a relic person and it really bugs you can always visit a good luthier who can give you an estimate for a quality touch up job that should really hide any signs of the ding.

I just dabbed some black nail polish around this ding to get a build up..

mainly to seal the wood and stick the finish together....;)

then promptly forgot about it..... then lent it to a guy to do some recording...

he didn't even notice/care it was there....

Yes indeed; I remember peeling the protective plastic off my brand new 2002 American Standard and marvelling at its pristine loveliness. Now, a decade on, it has acquired a nice collection of dings and buckle rash. Am I bothered?

Leave it as is. It's the beginning of the wear and tear that makes a life, and it's not causing any mechanical issues.

I wouldn't even notice that. Or if I did, I'd think "hey, cool" every time I saw it.
