    Not The Band.

    Right before The Band.

But is there anything else from the 60’s/early 70’s that is similar ? Blues, R & B, tight band, maybe a touch of country ?

    Similar to these :

Find some compilations of Roy Buchanan's early stuff. he played with lots of those old country-boogie bands.

If can find a copy of the book Rock A Billy (the twang heard round the world) there is quite a bit on Hawkins, the Hawks and others from that early time period.

The vast majority of bands mentioned so far are chart bands when the OP asked for other bands like the Hawks. Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks were a covers band playing the roadhouse, student union and other similar low key gig/circuit of the period. In fact if the Hawks hadn't gone on to play with Dylan and become the Band it is highly likely no one other than those who attended said gigs would ever have heard of Ronnie. The proper answer in my opinion is every covers or other band trying to make a breakthrough at that time which is literally thousands upon thousands all over the world.
