I've got a chance to get a Orange Tiny Terror Combo for cheap but it would mean selling my Delta Blues 210.

What are your thought's on the TT combo? I've played the head once in a shop and remember liking it's touch sensitivity and I'm thinking the switchable gain will help in smaller settings. I don't think I'll ever need more then 15 watts due to the fact that my Delta Blues is NEVER pasted 4 and usually bellow 3 in most of the places I play. (churches and bars) I had one of the hand made AD5s for awhile but found that it just broke up too early for what I needed but that may have been the single 10 inch speaker too.

My main consern is how the TT takes pedals. I usually do what seems to be the typical tube amp + pedal setup, aka amp cleanish but just breaking up and then add a dirt pedal or 2. How does the TT take to dirt pedals? Delay? Just trying to get a feel from some people who've lived with it for awhile before I make the plunge.

THANKS!!!

I never had the combo, but I did have the TT head with an Eminence Governor (V30 copy) in a 1 x 12" closed back cab. So, my old rig was probably very similar to the TT combo.

The TT's tone control was not sufficient for me. It always seemed too dark-sounding for my tastes. I used my TT with an EQ pedal.

Other than that, I think the TT took most pedals just fine. I would certainly NOT use a reverb pedal with it because you'll be distorting the reverb. I used a delay pedal with mine and I thought the sound of distorted delay was pretty cool. It's hard to get a clean sound out of the amp.

I now have a DRRI and haven't looked back.

Thanks...cleans is something I'm worried about. I sold my AD5 for the same reasons you said. The tone shaping was too limiting, tho I never used a EQ pedal & it distorted too early at gig levels. I assumed the 15 watt has more headroom with the separate volume and gain knobs.

i have a TT head with an open back 1x12 loaded with an eminence governor.

if you keep the gain below 12 o'clock, you'd get reasonably clean tones. of course, nothing compared to BFs or even tweeds, but still sufficiently clean.

i also have to say that setting the gain past 3 o'clock only results in more buzzing, indicating unnecessary preamp distortion.

I find that i get the best sound with the gain on 11 o'clock, and the volume full up. This is all on the 15 watt mode by the way, haven't had the time to play with that 7.5 watt mode.

it takes pedals quite alright. i've run a TS-9, a DD3 and a number of other Boss distortion pedals that sounded perfectly alright through it. I only mention the TS-9 because that's the only pedal i've kept with me.

If you want a really clean sound, the TT is not your amp, IMO. It wasn't designed for that -- from everything I know. It was designed for a light to moderate crunch. The gain knob affects volume. So, as you turn the gain knob up the volume goes up. It's much more difficult to get a clean sound in a band situation with a drummer, bass player, etc.

But here's one trick that you could use: put a 12AT7 in the V2 slot. This will clean and brighten the amp a bit without effecting the overall output too much.

I just sold my TT combo. I replaced both preamp tubes with 12at7s, and it tamed the amp a lot. It also made the single not clarity actually clear, which was my main concern buying the tiny terror. If I couldn't get it clean enough while being loud enough I just threw a boost pedal in front. It took pedals very well for me, not reverb or any modulators, but dirt and fuzz and delay did well with it. The only reason I sold it was because I'm still on the hunt for my own tone... the ac15c1 seems to be my "it" amp right now.

THANKS JIMMY!!!
Yeah I HATE REVERB!!!! Sorry but it just sucks! so that's no worry.

An AC15 is a nice amp! My lead player has a 210 AC15 and it sounds SO good!

I like the whole look and sound of the TT until it starts to break up. The breakup sounds good, but I like a good deal of clean headroom. alas, the TT breaks up a little too early for me. These are designed to rock hard , I believe. I know different tubes and the speaker choice can make a strong impression, and I understand the use of a boost, (got one for my Laney 1-12",I guess I like British amps!) to get more headroom for band situation, but I really like that clean sound. Does it's big brother have decent headroom, or any other Orange amps in that metal box style?

If you like some crunch, you'll like the TT combo. I don't play mine loud, strictly at home (and on the 7W setting), but you can get some good cleanish and great crunchy sounds out of it. As far as pedals go, you should be fine. I like my boss blues driver with it the best. I also have a Turbo Rat and a Bad Monkey. I really liked the Bad Monkey with other amps, but not the TT. Delay sounds just fine with it too.

Thanks for all the input!

I went and played it and while I'd love to get one I can't see it being my only amp, to modern rock sounding and not enough blues. I do like it but found the single tone knob just too limiting, also seemed more like a treble bleed then anything. I could get a fair amount of clean out of it but it was sterile to my ear. Once you start adding gain it got pretty hairy fast.

I ended up finding and getting a 1980 Fender 75...you can see more info in the thread I posted about that if interested
