Guys, I was about to pull the trigger on an Orange 35RT (to complement my Roland Blues Cube Hot Fender Bassman Tweed edition), until I heard these recent demos:

Has anyone here experienced this issue with their Orange 35RT? Does this only impact the black version, or are both versions affected?

Thanks, guys.

Mine buzzed at lower volumes, when I first bought it, but broke in quickly and is fine now. Others have mentioned this.

If you watch the second video, the owner demonstrates how the speaker buzzes; he twists the speaker frame and the buzzing stops, which suggests a warped speaker frame.

I haven’t opened mine, as the prob resolved itself. I like the sound of the stock speaker. I believe it’s 4 ohm. Anybody try others?

Great to hear, Jakedog.

I think the Orange 35RT would be the perfect complement to my Roland Blues Cube Hot (Fender Bassman Tweed version).

Just hope it's buzz-free.

I just picked up a mildly used Blues Cube Hot Boss Drive. It’s a Bluesbreaker based item. No one bid on it on the Bay, but me, so I got it almost half price. I guess this is a digital amp. It doesn’t sound like one and has a great cleans to bluesy breakup. The Orange also sounds great clean. The Orange is not digital, but sounds tubey to me. Both take pedals well. I gig with the Orange and receive compliments. They assume it’s a tube amp. Congrats

Nope. The Roland BCH is solid state, analog technology, my friend. Enjoy!

Yep. The Orange 35RT is solid state, analog, too, like the Roland.

Glad you're happy with your Orange. I'm getting ready to order one!

Okay. In regards to the Blues Cube vs the Orange. So, that explains the discrepancy in price of Blues Cube w the Katana. The Katana is a digital amp, whereas this is some sorta something else? I just don’t get the “tube logic” explanation offered by Roland. Is it a hybrid of some sort?

Nope. The Roland BCH and Orange 35RT are solid, state analog amps. pure and simple. no digital modeling.

I've played 10+ of these amps in rehearsal rooms and I've heard MANY of them do it. These are all the orange colored ones, I've never seen a black one and I'd have a super hard time believing the color made a difference.

I think they do it after they've been played a while? Certainly amps in a practice/rehearsal space are not going to get treated with kid gloves.

Most of the rehearsal rooms where I go have 2 35RTs in the room, I'll try to find one of the amps that sounds better to plug into, usually one is working better than the other.

The other thing I have noticed that is really common is the built in tuner in the amp breaks. I had to go make sure I got a clip on tuner that worked well for when I go to practice as I know I can't count on the tuner on these amps to function.

Funny as we hear constant stuff about tube amps being high maintenance and breaking a lot. Where I go they always have SS amps in the practice rooms and they go through amps like you wouldn't believe. I have also seen the 35RT just shut off while you're playing and you have to power cycle it to get it to come on again.

One of the rooms has like 25+ broken vox SS amps in it. The Orange 35RTs replaced the Vox amps.

Most of the rooms also have a Fender Frontman 65R. I think those are lasting a long time because they're too loud for the room and no one uses them.

There is a workaround for this. Turn the bass practically off and cut the mids quite a bit too. At least with my Tele the Orange 35RT has way too much bass any way. I put the amp between 0-1 on bass and I get a good amount of bass. I usually turn the mids down to about 3 and leave the treble around 5-6. Anything more particularly on the bass and it sounds terrible and the amp is going to buzz.

I don’t really think this is an issue I have with the amp. These are just amps that live a pretty hard life. They get played at pretty high volume probably 3-4 hours a day 6 days a week.

Hmmm... I didn't really get that nuance after reading your original post.

Had you led with THIS post, I would have understood. Thanks for the clarification.

Yah hard, life, but they do seem to have the problem the OP mentioned quite often, so maybe it is inherent in the design.
