in my opinion, people rely too much on other people's opinions.

May I ask what spp. of Cedar is that? Looks like a very aromatic Juniper type?

Afraid I'm unsure of the cedar specifics as it was just a piece that I found in my wanderings.

go with the little chrome pickup ring for the neck pickup, and just rock the wood
Seems to be some common opinions - black, tortoise, or none.
If it was my choice, it would be one of these. Still a difficult choice between these three.
I have a Godin with a mahogany body, no pickguard - looks great
I bought a piece of cedar to practice neck pockets on and it is very light. I don't know about the weight of the body you have, but with a maple neck, the balance might be a consideration. If I made a guitar with the cedar I have and the 1+" deep necks, in maple, that I have on my tele, the pick guard would need to be made of lead.
