Tooled leather pickguard and a cattle brand burned into the body....Like a Gretsch Roundup.

I'm not even a country guy, but that would look cool as heck.

I'd go with something that accentuated the highlights in the wood, but was minimal.

How about a metal pickguard? I've seen a lot of people selling them and a quick google search should point you to several. Copper, or aluminum might look cool.

Thats the go. Personally I think standard tele pickguard shape looks cheap & crappy.

I simply have a problem with plastic on/of any musical instrument. To me, plastic is not musical, and is just one of my personal hangups. You have a nice body there with cool cedar grain & finish. I would not want to hide that. My 2 cents is to go naked. The bridge pickup mount is taken care of by the tailpiece, and the neck pup can be mounted in a pickup ring, possibly one made from scrap left from the body, or a complimentary contrasting wood, or just screw it into the cavity. Woodcraft is a good source for 1/8" stock to make custom pickguard & pickup rings with. I have no affiliation with Woodcraft (total disclosure).
Okay, so I gave you 3 cents worth...

    .

I'd go with no pickguard. Don't route a channel. Use a long 'electricians' drill bit (harbor freight carries them) and drill using the neck pocket to keep flat from near the corner of the neck pocket in a straight line through the end of the neck pickup cavity into the control cavity.

That way you can let that guitar go topless.

This was my initial plan, but I'm certainly going to investigate leather and will consider going sans pick guard as well. Thanks again to all for your suggestions!

I would say no pickguard and just get a pickup ring for the neck pup. Beautiful color

    Clear would look good.
You can also go with just a chrome ring around the neck pickup.

I would do this pickguard, just not on the body being discussed. Maybe an XGP body...
