Nice guitar! Might I ask where you got the neck and body and who finished them? So one thing I've noticed is sometimes Lake placid blue has a slight teal tint to it like in your picture or the picture of the Cadillac below but if you look at Fender's site for the American Special it looks to be more of darker blue that has a white out effect when a light is glaring on it. Does yours have that color look too depending on the light or do you think different vendors' finishes can vary quite a bit?

I like LPB on a strat, but not a Tele. And then only with a rosewood board.

    Thanks!

The neck and body are both from Warmoth. I'd guess the variation you're seeing in photographs has a lot to do with the lighting when the picture was taken. Mine does not appear teal in person. I took four pictures of my new guitar and the color looks a bit different in each. You can even see that photographic variation on the Fender site where I did a search on the word "Placid" and this came up:
    http://www.fender.com/search?q=placid

Here's another picture of mine that I think captures the color pretty accurately.

That's a pretty guitar! Is that the American special?

So I caved. After spending 2-3 weeks researching a parts build I was getting tired of it consuming all of my thoughts and was starting to not like the idea that this project was going to end up stretching out for like 2-3 months by the time the parts came in. I think I was overthinking it and was kind of getting exhausted by all the options and all the decisions. It was also going to cost me about what the American Standard Tele goes for. So I decided to order in a Lake Placid Blue American Special Telecaster through Guitarcenter. When it comes in if I don't like it they give you 45 days to take it back. So I'm hoping it just works for me and I can get on with playing a beautiful telecaster. But if I don't mesh well with it I guess I can go back to researching the partscaster route. I still think doing a partscaster would be awesome but I'm kind of thinking it might be better after a get more experience under my built playing a telecaster and know more of what I want. And then maybe by then I could do a wood grain finish tele and do the finish myself and save some money. For now though I'm hoping this American Special works out.
Thanks everyone for the opinions and pics. I'll have to post my thoughts when it comes in.

I prefer Faded Sonic Blue to the metallic Lake Placid Blue, but that's because I'm in love with my new 60s Baja.
