Now I have to do some investigating.... the video of Clapton playing a sunburst Strat within that video - it has a large headstock. Is that a different guitar, or the same body with a swapped neck?

    Yeah ! me too .
I wonder who would really know the answer to that one ?
Hey you just gave me an idea . I'm gonna take my American made Kramer I got from the Prez of Kramer Denise B in 1986 as an endorsement guitar and I'm gonna rip out the floyd , pull the duncans out and place a wooden bridge with a Kent Armstong floating pick up in the neck ..

    Nice !

It's a different guitar. Three bolt neck with bullet trussrod.

    Here's Eric with the 54

Didn't they say in the video that Eric auctioned 100 guitars for his charity? Maybe he had multiples.

Ok, not to rain on Eric's parade but.....back when Guitar Center brought this guitar in for forensic study.....then weighed the body, the neck, copied the dimensions, analyzed the metal in all metal parts...then they found similar weighted and grained alder wood and finally they exactly copied the finish and painstakingly duplicated all the scratches on the front and back. Then they produced about 50, maybe it was 100 copies at the custom shop and sold them for $25k a piece.

I got to play one of these "rare" copies which were exact duplicates, as best as could be done. I played it for about 10 minutes, set it down.....tried a different amp...and the outcome was.....I thought it was a piece of junk and didn't sound any better than numerous off the shelf strats I had played. Hated the neck.

So, unless you want to own Eric's difficult to play guitar realize it's really just an average guitar which has become a collectors item. Probably could get as much return on investment as a Fidelity Growth Fund would yield.

Oh, yeah, forgot about the 3 bolt neck.

Then why did that video show me Clapton playing a completely different guitar?

Nope, they also issued a Brownie remake. I know, had it in my hands.

Fender Custom Shop Introduces Eric Clapton "Brownie" Tribute Stratocaster | Guitar World

What is confusing however is that they call this the Slowhand Strat and he also had the Brownie. Not sure now if these are the same guitar or if there are two different models in play. The article above says the Brownie was the first strat he ever owned purchased in 1967. It states it was a 56.

This article above from the OP says it is a 54 and purchased in 76. Confusing information out there. So this one is likely a later strat. But, if it's anything like the Brownie...I wouldn't want it.

Well it's still not this guitar. This guitar is a 54 hard tail that Clapton bought just before his 79 tour.
As for Blackie vs Brownie the list on Blackie was 25K and Brownie 15K So I assumed you meant Blackie.
