I was talking to someone in Manitoba who mentioned that craigslist is not very popular there. It's all I ever use out here.

What site do you guys use for buying and selling used gear?

I've bought a couple online from Guitar Center. Being able to ship to a store and either accept it or return really takes the guess work out of online shopping. I've bought from eBay once, that was uneventful and the guitar was a keeper.

Edit:Guitar Centers used selection for clarity

For buying-I like GC used. You can shop all the different stores' used inventories online, and they'll ship it to your neighborhood GC . Which for me is like 2 miles from where I live, and that beats some guitar sitting on my porch while I'm at work

Usually the lowest price, too. Shhhhhhhhh...

My preferred "used" site is Guitar Center. The primary reason being that since we have a local store, I can have the item shipped to the store and decide on the spot whether or not if I want to accept it. The risks otherwise are much more of a gamble.
EBay would be my second choice because I've been luck a couple of times.

I'm in Ontario. CL's is only useful in the Toronto (or equivalent big city) area. I mostly use Kijiji which I think is some child of E-bay.

I prefer some aspects of the Craigslist site over Kijiji, but Kijiji also has it's ok points.

I use E-bay & or Reverb to see what the rest of the world is getting for instruments, but am a local face to face kind of buyer/seller.

Craig's list isnt very effective, but sometimes it works. Mostly though stuff just sits on there and doesn't sell.
Ebay is great for selling. I prefer Reverb but Ebay seems to be more effective at getting it sold. I just list all 3 places with the caveat "Subject to prior sale, item is listed multiple places."

I voted Craigslist since that's where all my truly amazing deals have come from, but lately I've been buying on Guitar Center's used site and selling on Reverb.

Living on the west coast means that I am far from other major cities, and so I am stuck buying from the local used guitars selection. We don't have Guitar Center, so I don't have access to that. I'm envious of American's access to used gear.

    I’m a CL fan.
I never buy from eBay anymore.
Lately my ex-employer has been getting most of used gear business.

I tried asking about how this worked in another thread. Do you get a refund minus shipping? Can you trade in gear for the used purchase at this time?

I'm envious of Canadians' access to old Traynors. I'm reliably informed that every pawn shop in Canada, from Vancouver to St John's, is filled with mint condition '70s Traynors that they'll give to you free just to be rid of them.

If the item is damaged or otherwise not as described, they refund shipping. If you just don't like it, you eat the shipping. I've always had good experiences returning gear to my local GC when necessary- it's been quick and painless.

I don't think you can negotiate trade-ins, because you need to complete the transaction before they ship.

Craigslist for fun spontaneous finds, EBay or Reverb for major used purchases.
