Just finished up a build (Rog Azabache). Played it with the enclosure opened, and verified it worked.

Squeezed the board into its tight space, boxed it up, no sound... something shorted.

Since then I've been checking everything 2x and 3x. Checking every trace, every component. Tidying up solder, making so no runs or shorts are on the veroboard. Swapping transistors, etc.

After every time I think I find the issue, I plug it and, and nothing....

until I just realized on my practice amp I've been putting the input jack into the output and vice versa. I have wasted hours. I probably did this 10x times or more before I bothered to check my jacks.

The cable with a fat jack is on the amp side and one with thin one was on the guitar side. For some reason I had it my mind I had connected the the fat jack to the guitar but never even bothered to look. Sigh.

    thanks for letting me vent.

At least you found the issue - I've wasted hours and still gotten nowhere!

I'm in the same situation right now! Took a break to avoid getting over-steamed. Now, where did I put my screwdriver.

I just want to finish up now, and I dropped 3 of the 4 enclosure screws in the shag carpet. Found 2 of them. The other seems to have vanished to a parallel universe. That last missing screw is going to haunt me.

Had a similar experience last night putting a Tele back together after a refinish. Whoever wired this thing up was nuts. I can't for the life of me get the middle position to work as wired so I'm going to ditch the current pots and switch and redo it myself next week. Tele wiring is not rocket science.

Pi: I've repaired and modified many tube amps. When it came time to put it all together and test - no sound. I forgot to put the tubes in! Didn't take very long to figure out but I admit that's happened more than once. I was thinking so much about what was worked on that I forget the basics.
