Hello, I have a set of EL34BHT 6CA7 tubes hanging around and I don't even know what these belong in (or for that matter why I purchased them years ago, senility? )

So what are EL34BHT 6CA7 used for? I have an AC15 and Princeton Reverb and it's not them.

    Thanks in advance - Eric

EL34BHT (AFAIK) are an unsuccessful attempt to meet the higher voltage spec's of old EL34's.
EL34BHT seem to have max plate voltage of 600V. Old EL34's were 800V
Wouldn't use them on a Dynacord Eminent amp, with over 750V plate Voltage.

OK for anything EL34 below 600V.

Are they large bottles or thin bottles? Thin is typical of EL34'S. Large fat battles are 6CA7's. Both types bias the same and are considered interchangeable, but the have different sound characteristics.

Thanks for the info, I have since found this cut to the chase description "The EL34 is found in many British guitar amps and is associated with the "British tone" (Vox, Marshall, Hiwatt, Orange) as compared to the 6L6 which is generally associated with the "American tone"", - close enough.

The tubes are pictured below. It appears as though I could of used these in the Vox AC15? (small note, I also use a Dynaco ST70 which uses an EL34 quad, could have been some long ago left overs.)

As always thanks for your help, cheers.

They have octal bases and would not fit in an AC15. I used to use these in my Marshall JCM800 and they sounded good and held up well.

Real 6CA7's sound more like 6L6'S. These look a little wider than some EL34'S, but certainly not as big as a 6CA7.
