One bucket brigade pedal for delay flange and chorus?

I’ve been googling around and I can’t find one.

Since a chorus and flanger are just LFO modulated delay with short and extremely short delay times respectively, has anyone made a bucket brigade flanger where you can just turn the delay time all the way up through a chorus range to times more typical of a bucket brigade delay and turn the modulation down to zero? I bet it could be done with a rotary switch that changes the range of the time pot.

I know EHX polychorus does flanging and chorus both but obviously not delay.

And I know it’s probably more practical to have separate pedals but I like the idea of just having a two pedal all analog board with my OS-2 that does multiple kinds of gain pedal. Mostly the chorus/flange/delay would be for slapback/sub-slapback delay for thickening my lead tone, but it’d be cool having the options.

EHX Walking On The Moon Flanger, full analog bbd flanger/chorus. The filter matrix mode turns off the LFO.

Hmm…never seen a flanger and delay together. I use a Digitech Digidelay and love the modulation setting on it. It’s a great chorus effect that sounds excellent with distortion. I use it when we cover Plush by the Stone Temple Pilots. However, it doesn’t get flange-y at all, and it’s digital.

I think to get all three, you might need something digital like a ZOOM or Line 6 multi-fx.

I think, but stand to be corrected, the narrower range of adjustment on BB chips is the problem. So they can be set to do flange and chorus, or short to long delay. Not both. Also, for best results with flanger, ideally the polarity of the feedback needs to be flipped to negative.

Old 8 and 12 bit digital modulated delays from the 80s can definitely do flanger to long delay, getting dark and crunchy as the time is extended. I used to have a Vesta Fire MDX (Vestax) that went as low as 1ms, and up to 1s. Ibanez/Maxons from the 10 series, are pretty much the same circuit. Often, also the same circuits from rack modules of the time. They can get quite dark when the delay multiplier is extended as they low pass to reduce noise.

Although digital, the Boss SDE-3 should do most of what you want, and has a high cut control which would put it in the BBD ballpark. The DD200 on its BBD setting, might be an option.

If you can live with a rack unit, something like the Ibanez DM-1000 has the sounds, and can be cheaper than most pedals.

Oh okay that makes more sense. My friend has a vintage Polychorus and he was describing it like flange and chorus were different ranges on the same knob but now that I look at one, it’s selected by a rotary switch and in fact I think they may have separate BBD IC’s in there.

The cheap EHX Memory Toy delay has a pleasing chorus sound with the modulation engaged. I've wondered the same about flanging.

And here I was thinking I was about done buying pedals for a while.

I watched some demos and frankly it’s a shame that this pedal is being marketed near the bottom of a much more popular line. It sounds great, and it would get two pedals off my board. Have to work that into my gear budget eventually.

Sorry to feed the GAS. But yeah, as long as you aren’t looking for a lot in tweakability, I love the sound.

There is an internal trim pot to adjust the depth - stern warnings abound not to twiddle the other ones though.

It would be used 80% as a delay and 20% as a chorus anyways… I have a DemonFX mini chorus, which is a pretty exact clone of the Analogman mono chorus, down to the paint scheme.

This may mark me as a rather non-pedal guy but three knobs and a three way switch is about my limit. Sometimes I use an MS-20 semimodular synth as either an envelope filter or an automatic swell (less since I’ve gotten a replacement EB VPJr for doing swells) and boy, that’s a lot of knobs on that thing.

I recently bought the EHX Eddy chorus/vibrato (I think maybe I should lay off listening to Cocteau Twins for a bit) and it has way more knobs and switches than I need. I bought it to get more broken seasick sounds.

The MS-20 is glorious. I was looking at putting together a small modular for filter, envelope, lfo mayhem. But that’s a very very deep rabbit hole and I need to do more with what I’ve got at the moment.

I have designs on getting a Behringer Neutron as an FX unit mainly, but one holdup is that its interoperability with the MS is close to nil. Neutron uses Eurorack CV, which means octave per volt, +0-5v modulation inputs and a positive voltage for gate signals. MS is old Japanese design so it uses 1hz/volt, -5—+5v modulation and shorts a voltage to ground for gate instead of outputting a voltage.

So if I wanted to actually play it I would only be able to use it with midi, not using the MS as a CV keyboard.

Not sure the Delay Llama Xtreme will do Flanger, delay times of 1-5ms are needed, and the standard Delay Llama starts at 20ms. Ideally, the feedback control needs to be able to go into negative values, inverted phase, too. This is a great article, breaking it down and giving examples of how it sounds at each stage. It is interesting how a capable delay can be manipulated into other effects though.

Someone already mentioned it, but the BB chips for Chorus, Flange, and analog delay are all different. There are analog pedals that use multiple BB chips to offer different functionality, but typically requires a switching between the different BB chips for different modes.

The closest, and probably most expensive, analog option for this is the Moogerfooger ClusterFlux. It's an analog BB based modulation pedal and can do chorus, flange, and vibrato, and via midi you can extend the delay time to do longer delays like slapback, and can do a lot more than that. I have one and it's an amazing pedal, but since Moog discontinued the moogerfooger line they've gotten super expensive on the used market ($800+). It was just dumb luck that I bought mine used about 6 months before they were discontinued.

Behringer has started cloning the old moogerfooger pedals. So far they've released a copy of the MF-105 MuRF and today announced the MF-103 Phaser; maybe they'll release a clone of the bucket brigade MF-108 Cluster Flux as well.

the korg SDD2000, and the SDD3000 both had echo /delay/ chorus /flange/Phase and a sampler plus 99 programable memories , the SDD3000 also came in a foot pedal, as where the SDD2000 was a rack unit

you could also get an eventide H9 max that has a ton of features that you are looking for plus more

I've used both and still use the H9Max and I love these
