 I've never been to NYC in my life! Do they really do that over there... or is it that life's so fast they can then eat their pizza on the move without getting cheesy-tomato sauce down their suits?

    noun

an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or other filling between them, eaten as a light meal.

Noooo... a calzone is folded and sealed down before it's cooked! I'm talking about after it comes out of the oven.

Sandwich or not, so long as it's got ketchup on it, we're good to go! ;) :D :p

A sausage sandwich is a sandwich. A hot dog is a type of sausage. Ergo, a hot dog on bread is a sandwich. In fact, I'm going to call it a "hot dog sandwich" from now on. Hope I don't get beat up too frequently.

No. A hot dog is a hot dog. A Sammich is a Sammich.

One does not say "I will have a BLT sandwich". They request a BLT
Thus, we request a hot dog. Sandwich is inferred

If we put ham and cheese on a hotdog bun with some butter, wouldn't we call that a sandwich?

I don't know what the "butter" thing is about, but I think you're describing a hoagie. Come to think of it, a hotdog on a bun is a hotdog hoagie (grinder, sub, whatever), not a sandwich. Sandwiches are stuff between two slices of bread. A single bun with a space for stuff is a hoagie bun.
