Well it finally happened... the recording project/solo project/sudo-band I'm recording with/playing with is getting a MySpace page. I created it today, but it looks like royal poooooo.

So can anyone tell me how to edit it to make things look a little more pro? I see other bands that have photos for their backgrounds and animations in their profiles and scrolling band pictures and such. How do I get that? Are there programs that do that for you or is there some trick I'm unaware of? Help a brother out here....

I disagree with Johnny. For your band, it's great! You can connect with a bunch of local talent and venues through it. Of course, I photoshop pictures of the band members when they were 17 into the pictures on the site!!
(no, I don't!)

Riz, I'm not gonna help you more than saying there are "Pimpmyspace" pages out there that can really help you make your page look good. Do a google search for the above term and get to work.

Well I can only find info on changing my page if I have a personal profile, not a band page. Does anyone know how to edit a band's page???

Log on & go to edit profile. If you open a seperate screen up & do a search on myspace layouts (I personally find coolchaser the least naff), you can pick the background you want. Then go to Band details & you can enter that link's code in the band bio section. That will give you a fancy background & I believe you can add the box for adding friends / sending messages. These sites all generate codes that you simply drop into the band bio box.

In terms of photographs, you'll need to hold a hosting account which you can get for free at photobucket.com - then simply upload the images you want from your computer, size them accordingly & drop the links in the right boxes whilst editing your profile. You can check your page before comfirming the change is alright. Again you'll use generated codes.

I too disagree with Johnny - I'm 34 & my last band had 10,000 hits, got loads of paid gigs & had our music heard all over the world. I would not have imagined that happening back when I was an idealistic 19yr old. Myspace might not make your career but it's a free site that can help promote your band. Best of luck.

PS - if you upload too many fancy things (particuarly youtube videos) than this can result in you having a profile that takes ages to upload. If this is the case than people might get bored waiting for your profile to appear & go off to look at other bands. SO check how quickly the page is taking to display!

Thanks Tim... according to my girlfriend (who's had Myspace for years, while I've been a curmudgeon) I'm using the wrong browser and that's what's causing all my problems. I'm using Safari, she says I have to use IE. I'll get back to y'all and let you know how that works.
