Impact Factor is the measure by Clarivate that is the academic benchmark metric of relative importance of a journal in any category. Non-rated pay for play houses are generally frowned upon in the scientific community for both entry and citation. High impact factor journals generally don’t require payment for publication. Low or no impact factor journals aren’t accepted as citation sources above the high school level.

I hate to be “that guy”. Ok, kidding, I actually like to be that guy.

If you’re going to post a “scientific” paper at least cite one from a proper peer reviewed source. PLOS ONE is not any kind of legitimate journal, it’s an online publishing house for amateurs. If you click on “The Study” link you’ll see the full paper and the source and the author bios. None of the affiliates have MS or PhD in their names, fyi.
Maybe I should pen a thesis saying mumble rap is scientifically proven to be better than rock. Now I know where to get it published for a nominal fee.

The source of this article is a “pay for play” site. If you want to write a formatted thesis about any (literally Any) topic this house will publish it for money. That’s not how actual journals work at all.

From their website:
PLOS ONE is the journal of choice for authors who want their research to be available to all, immediately and without restriction. Articles are highly discoverable and accessible to researchers both in and outside of their discipline. Our active press program places articles in high profile global media outlets such as the Huffington Post

I was just gonna go with Unchained Melody ('55) and Stand By Me ('61) came out over 60 years ago. And Every Breath You Take is over 40 now. But, yeah, fake research and publications should be called out, too.

Long live the I-vi-IV-V, baby.

I thought that was the coolest progression when I first learned it.

Right? Seminal moment for me. Key of G, cowboy. I remember thinking, wow, this sounds just like Every Breath You Take, and a million other pop songs! That means I can figure them all out now, by ear!

I started singing the lyrics and strumming. Then my buzz was instantly killed when I got to the bridge. Hadn't really figured out barre chords and flats/sharps on the fretboard yet. 🥺

we used to do that song in A (oh the stretch!) and arranged it as a country song. It works great.

Thousands of times more artists with more ideas. Those ideas are no longer throttled by label executives. More choices, hundreds if not thousands of times more avenues to discover new music.

Competition and choices make everybody work harder.

Same way cars and tacos are better today than in the 70s, music has evolved in so many ways over the past 4 decades.

And making sure you are understanding this,
That scientific study you posted was not written or reviewed or validated by scientists. It was purely an editorial with citations that was submitted to an unchecked publication house along with payment to publish it. It’s not real.

Wait...
One of my favorite taco places of all time makes them EXACTLY the same as when I went there in the 70's.
Its almost spooky. I think even the decor is at least 95% the same.
I talk to the proprietor from time to time. Descendent of the original owner.
"Yeah, we don't do change well"

But you know what has changed?
Washing machines.
My midrange machine measures the load. Uses only as much water as needed. When it senses an imbalance, it stops and redistributes the load. Too many more tricks to list.
It replaced a machine who's best talent was the imbalance dance that 80% of the time resulted in the machine moving and blocking the laundry room door.

Now that's progress!

Wait. What was the subject?

My 35 year old son works at Trader Joe's. He's dedicated, friendly, and a hard worker so management made him a mentor for new hires.
He told me with one exception, the new employees were not engaged. He quit the mentor
role and has disdain for most new workers.
As for Raitt, it's called a lifetime of achievement.
