Too many to mention.... Foxx Tone Machine is my fav fuzz ever though, followed by the Superfuzz and the Big Muff. I have a germanium fuzzface, it does that thing but it's not a sound I'm really into.

I doubt it. I love my EHX OP Amp Big Muff RI, and EHX Ram’s Head RI. I keep both on my board, and run them in front of my Orange TH30, on the clean channel only. I also run an EP Booster before them, and run an MXR 10 Band EQ, in the loop.

A long time favorite, and a steal at $99.00

    1. Symmetrical LED clipping - More Crunch and Compression.

    2. No clipping - Wide open OpAmp drive for clean boost.

    3. Asymmetrical silicon diode clipping - More transparency with a loose feel.

Fuzz ain’t for everyone or every style of music. Couldn’t imagine VH with a fuzzy sound. I was 57 before I bought my first fuzz. Never liked them and I don’t know why. Can’t wait to get back to the states and write music that incorporates that thing they do.

Is a tube screamer similar to "fuzz"? Thanks all.

No, TS is overdrive with Si diodes in OA feedback... In fuzz is one transistor driving the second one..

I have little experience with fuzz. I only own three: an original Little Big Muff, an original third-version Big Muff, and an original first-version, triangle-knob Big Muff.

Only the triangle-knob is special, but it is very special indeed. Organic and lush and lovely. And contrary to other folks’ views, I think it sounds great with my blackface Deluxe Reverb. I usually play a pre-CBS Strat or Tele with the Big Muff so the EQ of that particular chain may affect the result.

We had a long thread on this topic a coupla months back, though there was no cost restriction.

    https://www.tdpri.com/threads/what-is-your-favorite-fuzz.1044910/

One thing I will say is IMO fuzz sounds very different thru a truly clean amp. You get more of a early 60s buzz sound rather than a later 60s fat fuzz. I always use fuzz into a slightly overdriven amp unless I want that early 60s spaghetti western sound.

Cool description of the sound and characteristics of silicon fuzz. The last silicon fuzz I had was a Sovtek Big Muff Pi, one of the huge green Russian ones, and I loved its sound. Foolishly I sold it because it was so big compared to my other pedals. Right now I'm using a Keeley Fuzz Head that I really like. It has a silicon or germanium selector switch. However in the silicon mode it is a combination of silicon and germanium diodes instead of just silicon. So your post has piqued my interest and I will look into finding a silicon fuzz pedal.

    Hi.

    Nope.

You could look here. It’s one fuzz pedal series, but the vid gives an overview of fuzz.

And maybe here for Tube Screamers.

    Ok, thread departure!!

Man, its a really really small world. I know this guy (Birdsnake Brown) and he looks really really young in that video. He is a fantastic guitar player and a heck of a nice guy. He plays in a really fun band called the Fender Benders. I took this video one night when they were hostIng a Sunday night jam at one of the coolest venues on earth called The Keys. Sadly the venue did not survive the zombie apocalypse. Local musicians are trying to find a way to bring it back... Anywhoo, this night somebody wanted to stump the band yelled out “Freebird,... no, Birdland”. The crowd got a pretty good chuckle and the band look at each other and procedes takes a swing at the tune cold. They actually manage not to axe murder the thing even though they forget part of it. That “Dumble” head you see behind him he built along with its “Birdsnakeulator” (Dumblator) effects send (sitting on top) as a 14 year old kid.
I miss times like this. Room full of musicians (that sax player was sitting in) all trying to stump the chumps and having a great time. BTW that’s his dad Mike Brown on bass and a killer musician and super nice guy too!!

    ...ok, as you were!

when I got my Mythos Golden Fleece, I sold my Catalinbread Karma Suture (germanium, I think). That Golden Fleece was my desert island pedal, but it just lost its space on the board to the DOD Carcosa. I love that thing into a DRRI and PRRI. I love driving into it, or going into drive from it. I just love it.

I keep watching this video for the Pedal Pawn until I get home...

I see a lot of love for Muff pedals and the DOD Carcosa as well.

What I mislabeled earlier as Vtronics is the Beetronics Octahive. There are some very cool spitty sounds and ring mod madness to be had for sure. Cool demo here:
