Love the Tele and the price, but you've got a lot to compete with on picture #1. Your buddy had the most awesome neck beard in the world!

Posted this several times. There are other pics that I need to go dig for so I can post something different. I dont know how its possible for me to change so much from the kid with neck-thru Gretsch to the fat bald white guy am now while my wife (singing) still looks the same? yeah, life's fair[emoji20]... whats up with my pants legs anyway? From around 81' meaning we were still in high school.

Can't remember where we were but I think we out-numbered the audience.

Circa '97-'98 at the now-defunct Firehouse in St. Louis. I'm in the Spam T-shirt with the Electra Phoenix, a couple of pedals and the little tweed Valco set on the other band's guitarist's Mesa-loaded amp rack. Everyone is looking at me because I was holding things up: the guitar in my monitor was tearing my head off and the monitor mix guy was on a mezzanine-level booth to the side of the stage.

1964; I'm playing the drums. We couldn't find a bass player so my cousin, with the SG, went out and bought a bass after this pic was taken.

LOL! Actually he was recording us on his reel to reel. He was holding his headphones so they didn't blow off his head...!

I remember them. You guys were like rock stars because you were older and in bands. I think the first gig I ever played was at Calaroga, the year after I went there. Played LaVista Jr. High, too with Mark Walthour and a drummer whose name I can't remember who went to Tennyson High. What a time and place to grow up!

The Byrds formed in 1964 in California but didn't release Mr. Tambourine Man until April 1965. In 64 we in Chicago had never heard of The Byrds.
So here are The Birds in 1964, or maybe early '65. We changed our name after Tambourine Man came out - LOL! I've posted this before. That's me second from the left...

Yep, good eye! The Phoenix was a $100 pawnshop prize and came with two humbuckers and a 18-volt active preamp with LP-style controls and push-pull pots (coil taps on both pickups) and 3-way switching. Engaging the preamp was pretty much like switching on a tornado alarm. Howl city. I took all that jazz out and wired it up passive, and decided I was okay with the bridge pickup but never used the full neck pickup. So I removed everything but a single push-pull pot for volume/bridge coil tap, and the three-way switch...and pulled the neck pickup and installed a neck pickup from a Lotus Tele copy, back-slanted and screwed to the pickup cavity floor with some foam under it for height-adjustment springiness. Slanted, the pole pieces were probably really misaligned with the strings but what was cool about that setup was how it sounded in combination with the coil-tapped bridge pickup (and a boost pedal goosing the front end of a turned-down Rat 2). Great for rhythm playing and lower-gain solos. Looked weird, worked great in that band with that rig. Still have it, but it's got two pickups out of some weird old Japanese 12-string electric now, and it sucks. Might get reincarnated as a one-HB rock machine rat guitar for a little while to see how I like it...got a Jackson J90C humbucker out of an old Kramer that I want to goof around with one of these days. Sorry for the detour...carry on...

Here's a shot of my band "The Other Half" playing an outdoor "country" show at Rocky Point Park, Warwick, RI circa 1978/79. I'm playing the natural Strat.
