Tonight I play guitar with the Joel Hoffmann Band at Poodie’s in Spicewood, Tx.
I’m going ti play my Cabronita partscaster and gold top Les Paul into my Katana 100 1-12.
My avatar guitar will stay home, I’m nit liking the new to me Bill Lawrence bkade lpickup ai just put in it.
    Dkh!
The gold top just got new Kinman noiseless 480 Alnico V pickups.
I’m really looking forward to using the Paul.
It had Fralin P90s, and I’ve never liked P90s, no matter who makes em’.
    Should be fun!

I guess all of us hear things different. P-90's, especially in my Les Paul are among my favorite pickups. Whatever works for the music!

tonight the weekly brewpub. Just finished moving to a new place in Houston - won't be driving to Austin on the weekends on a regular basis anymore. Did that for almost 12 years, so I can't say I'll miss the drive.

Taking the SF Princeton, my trusty tele and the small board. Two of our 5-piece are out of town, so it'll just be me and the wonderful songwriter/rhythm player and our djembe cowboy. Fun! Guest artist is a friend (Keith Rea) who is now touring as a solo artist. We used to do a Saturday matinee type show maybe 8 years ago on the same bill. It will be fun to see him and catch up on his tour stories.

And then we'll do a repeat, more or less, on Saturday at another venue here in Houston. Our little trio will open and and Keith will be the main attraction. Since it's Saturday and not as time crunched, I'll probably take the BF Tremolux plus cab and my flattop, in addition to telecaster. Should be another fun night. Kind of happy to pick up a weekend gig in my first weekend back in H-town.

I gotta proofread my posts better, or get stronger reading glasses!
    Lots of misspelling!
Tonight I have my wine bar gig.
My friend, great bassist Chuck will join me.
I’m bringing my new-to-me Alvarez acoustic/electric and my gold top.
We’ll sing and play through my Fishman Loudbox Performer.
If I play the gold top, I may use my trusty Cube 80XL.
    Looking forward to it!

Playing a country show at The Lucky Horseshoe tonight. We are sharing the bill with two other groups, so it’s only a one hour set. Bringing my Deluxe Telecaster and my 3 piece pedal board (EQ - Tubscreamer - Delay). The guitar player in the headliner group graciously offered to let me use his Deluxe Reverb amp, so it’ll be an easy load in & out. I think it’s going to be a fun night!

Farmers market tommorow morning. Weather should cooperate, we're far enough inland. Always a fun time; we'll have all four of us.
May have to get a crab sandwich before heading home:)

Playing one set from 7pm to 8:30pm on an "all day" benefit show for local charities on Saturday. There is a backline supplied (cool!), but I think I'll bring my Quilter Mach II head along just in case I don't like the amp and can use the speaker cab. I haven't had a show in quite a while where I didn't have to lug a ton o' gear. Looking forward to it!

Two gigs this weekend.... tonight at a Casino, tomorrow a Rodeo.... same group both nights.

I'll take my Tele, Pedal Steel, Baritone and my Variax to cover some 6 string banjo lines. I'll run them all through my Helix and patch it direct to FOH. I'll get it pumped back to me through my stage monitor and put a small FRFR behind me in case I need a little extra.

My Bi-Monthly gig Thursday this week, Jacksons in Gastonia NC. 6 to 8.

Using a NEW smaller amp this week. This is a small room, moderate volume very small footprint. I play an Emmons Steel and tele, I also require an extension speaker for the otherside of the room. I'm always seeking "whats better than last time".

I own many amps as well as a DV Mark 50 watt head and like it but really prefer a combo. I've used all sorts of various amps, PV, Carvin, Fender, Dr Z...but still want something smaller, fast setup fast breakdown. My requirement is an amp that can handle the Steel first, the Tele second. On this gig I can manage a non perfect Tele amp but not an amp that can't handle the Steel. Disclaimer, NON STEEL GIGS its the DR Z MAZ 38 all the way !

A few weeks back I found this DV MARK Little JAZZ 12 on the GC used site, I think they had it priced incorrectly because it was selling for $100 less than any other Little Jazz 12. It was priced as a Little JAZZ 8. I bought it and its quite nice ! Pretty much brand new.

Its the same 50 watt amp as the other 50 watt DV's minus the OVERDRIVE section. Small cabinet, real plywood , a 12 and plenty of volume as well as EQ range, hi ,mid and lo. AND 18 Pounds !

    Bringing it out tomorrow.

Emmons Steel, a Tele and this amp...

Friday I’m going to play my Chet through my Cube with a great trio!
Old friends Lamar, Ruben and I are playing the Atria Senior Living complex for a Happy Hour show.
It’s a joy playing with them!
I have two bass gigs after the Atria gig.
The first is with another old friend, Steve at the Cherry Creek Catfish Co.
I’m going to play my CAR PRS Kestrel bass into my Traynor Block 80.
Steve does cool old rock and roll and R&B tunes!
Last up is my regular Friday bass gig.
My rig will be my sunburst PRS Kestrel with Kinman pickups into to GK bass rig.
    Looking forward to it already!

This weekend is another casino gig... No accommodations so the drive is long each day, 4 hour round trip from my home. A good time to catch up on "coast to coast" :D (if I can find a station that is still airing it)

That aside, it's a great gig. The band I'll be playing with is without doubt the most talented of all the groups. It's a 6 piece band that can cover anything and everything... never rehearses, just great musicians and singers that learn their parts. It's like playing with a bunch of studio cats.

It's a casino... so the show will be a mixed bag of material. Bohemian Rhapsody is on the list... I had some homework to do on that one, mostly for the vocal part I was assigned.

I get to stick to guitar on this show... I'll take my Tele, Strat and Les Paul. As usual, I'll run it through my Helix, feed the FOH directly and hear myself through my monitor mix. I know most have a hard time with that type of setup, but I'm very comfortable with it.

the little brewpub deal. SF Princeton, small board, tele. Cash and carry.

Guest artists are a duo that used to play together as "Bicycle Thieves", one of my favorite band names ever. Both are good songwriters and players, should be double the fun. Glad to see them back out as a duo.

I play in a duo. Small monthly gig for about 40 people, outside when it is nice, inside when it is not. 1998 Squire Strat into compressor, ACTone and a looper- a Fender Frontman 25R with an Eminence Legend 1058. My buddy plays a Martin acou/elec into 40 W Fender Mustang. Do a little singing and stretching of classic rock songs. Fun.

I have two tomorrow, if Imelda doesn’t rain my first one out.
First is my Cherry Creek Catfish Company gig, from 6-9PM.
I’m going to bring my new to me Firebird V and my EJ Strat.
The EJ is a great fit for this band.
I’m going to use my Katana 100W 1-12 amp.
It’s an old school (I’m the “kid” in the band) R&B trio.
This is my current favorite regular gig.
Billy the keyboardist/singer is really great, as is my old friend, drummer Kevin.
Next, from 9:30-1:30 is my regular Friday bass gig.
I’ll use my sunburst Kestrel bass with Kinman pickups and Thomastik/Infeld strings and GK bass rig.
The Kinmans are a major improvement over the stock Jazz Bass type pickups.
They’re noticeably louder, clearer and are completely hum free.
I have another set on order for my other (red) Kestrel.
I think these PRS SE Kestrel basses are real sleepers!
They play, sound and look great.
    Looking forward to mañana!

hey, it's wednesday again, already. the brewpub tonight; bass player is back from his travels, so that will be fun. Pulled out my old 80's era SG and was reminded how much fun that is to play. Once upon a time, I put a p-94 (humbucker sized P90) in the neck and it sounds pretty good to my ears - a little cleaner than a typical P-90, when you want clean, but I can still make it nasty...YMMV.

So it's the SG, SF Princeton and small board. Here's what that bad boy looks like (not the best picture, but you'll get the idea:
